A lot of their profit comes from the increase in most people's electric bills. The month after Wilma, my bill went up 20% in spite of my being without power for 13 days, and it has gone up another 25% since then. They cry poverty while they're putting millions in their pocket and the customer is paying 30-40% more for their electricity.

So I guess that means that they are upping our rates again soon.

Not so nice to know that a monopoly has such a high profit from people paying monthly who have no choice at all. When do the Anti-trust laws come in to play?

Shucks, an increased customer base and I thought it was by charging everyone more.

Every utility in the country went to their local commission and said everyone else is charging more so we want to increase the rates 80%. Commissions said "That makes sense!"

Most of the wind power they can harness can from the hot air coming from their mouths and the other end.

Wow - talk about BS!! It's a fact the population growth in Florida has slowed due to higher housing costs, property taxes and hurricane insurance! The 72% profits increase is due to increasing fees - not more people people.

How can they keep going back asking for more increases - AND asking us to pay for their hurricane preparations with that kind of revenue. What a racket!

I moved a year ago - and my condo has sat vacant on the market - air was set at 82 degrees .. fridge was at the warmest setting, and the water heater was unplugged .. it was still $45/mo for electricity. It hovered around $60-$80 when I lived in it. Something strange there if you ask me.

I am sure FPL will use that extra money the next time a storm hits [cough cough cough].
They did roll back those extra charges from last year didn't they?

It won't be long before GA,SC and NC start to see the effects from all the people that left Fla to go there. I also hear the schools are no better up there. While you think it was a smart move you may be mistaken in the years to come. Enjoy while you can.

Obviously, the governor and legislature have lost complete control. FPL, taxes, insurance companies, cable companies...

The local phone company can't raise rates much, though, since most folks would just cancel service.
