10 Dumbest Things Fox Said About Climate Change In 2012

There are 14 comments on the Media Matters for America story from Dec 31, 2012, titled 10 Dumbest Things Fox Said About Climate Change In 2012. In it, Media Matters for America reports that:

In contrast to official temperature records showing a consistent warming trend, Fox Business reporters have claimed that the "temperature basically hasn't changed much since the ice age" and that it's actually "getting colder." Fox News figures have also denied the scientific consensus that human activity is driving climate change, claiming that ... (more)

Thanks much for this. It wraps up the year for the deniers in this forum.

Why just yesterday fossil fuel aka ff brought up the Mars thingie.

Oh well, still these lies are just too highbrow for ph'd. LOL.

And you think topix doesn’t know what you publish? Attacks on me won't delete or erase what you are and what you do. You should stop making an ASSumption of your---self before you know the facts. Do contact topix to satisfy your accusations of the reprint BS your posting of what I said. You are a dumbASSumption of your---self again.

Just saw this one.
From the article:

"1. Fox Reporter: "The Temperature Basically Hasn't Changed Much Since The Ice Age." During the Ice Age, much of North America, northern Europe and southern South America were covered with ice sheets. Natural climate cycles led to the end of the Ice Age tens of thousands of years ago. In the last century, temperatures have increased dramatically as a result of our massive emissions of greenhouse gases. Yet Fox Business reporter Tracy Byrnes claimed in March that "the temperature basically hasn't changed much since the Ice Age," before confusing global warming with the depletion of the ozone layer:"

Actually the last period of glaciation ended about 14,700 years ago. With the current holocene starting about 10,500 years ago after the end of the Younger Dryas.

We live in an ice age. Our earth has been in an ice age for the last 2.5 million years.

Yes we are cooling from the thermal max of the holocene. Our temps are not as high today as during the time of the thermal max approx 9000 years ago. Although temps regularly go up and down, the overall trend since the thermal max is cooling.

We have warmed up .8*C since the end of the little ice age. Anyone want to lose that .8*C of warming and go back to LIA temps? Didn't think so.

Correct, CO2 cannot make heat. It can trap heat but the heat has to come from somewhere else before CO2 can trap it.

CO2 does make plants grow. During the time period that resulted in the plants that are now oil the atmospheric CO2 levels were very high and the plants that sequestered the CO2 were very large. Those plants are what have decomposed to become our oil.

There are many scientists on both sides of this debate. And many scientists in all fields on both sides of this debate.

Global warming causes more ice. Climate change is never ending. What we see in the north and south poles is a bit of a dance that has one gaining and the other losing ice. The pattern persists in the historical data we have from the ice cores.

Is global warming over? In some places in other places not so much. What we do see is a lower level of solar activity in our future. If this happens then the amount of heat energy our oceans receive will cause them to cool and our weather patterns will reflect that cooling.

The proxies show the difference about 1.5*C since the little Ice Age.
Which is why it is a big deal if we warm another 1-4 degrees C over the next century.

The issue is more CO2 means more heat is trapped. So the heating increases regardless.

While it is true a greenhouse effect has a CO2 fertilization effect -- this is only true if there is enough rain and fertilizer to sustain the added growth. Turns out the real world doesn't work like a commercial greenhouse.

There are season cereals (Wheat, rye, triticale, oats, barley, and spelt) that grow in moderate weather but cease to grow in hot climates.

A study of the warming from this century has shown a very uneven distribution of rains –
And the warmer temperatures means more evaporation of moisture in the soil leading to MORE intense and larger drought areas

More important global warming has been estimated to harm the oceans. This has the greatest negative effect of all!

(i) Science studies have shown that as the surface water of the oceans warmed up, phytoplankton biomass declined -- which means that there will be less ocean plants to uptake this greenhouse gas and less food in the chain for ocean life.

http://www.livescience.com/environment/061206...

(ii) Increased atmospheric CO2 increases the amount of CO2 dissolved in the oceans. Carbon dioxide gas dissolved in the ocean reacts with water to form carbonic acid, resulting in ocean acidification. This is already killing off the coral reefs and creating dead spots.

<<New study says oceans' chemistry changing rapidly
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100422/ap_on_sc/...

WASHINGTON – The chemistry of the oceans is changing faster than it has in hundreds of thousands of years because of the carbon dioxide being absorbed from the atmosphere, the National Research Council reported Thursday.

There are very few dissenters that are climatologists. About 3%. About the same number of biologists who think the Earth is 6000 years old.

huh? The Arctis has about 50% less ice than 50 years ago.
NASA satellites show the Antactic is melting too at a significant rate.

So WHERE are you getting your misinformation?
Sad to see you spreading it, sir.
