Amazon's Kindle has a big job: saving the newspaper industry

Full story: Chicago Tribune

It's not even 10 inches tall, it's just one-third of an inch thick, and it costs nearly $500. But Amazon.com Inc.'s Kindle DX, unveiled Wednesday, has already been assigned a huge job: reversing the fortunes of the struggling newspaper industry.

I would happily subscribe to the Trib online for a discounted Kindle.

Reading the newspaper without getting my hands or any light colored clothing dirty with ink would be an improvement. If they could also eliminate all of the space used by advertising, provide a listing of article titles or some ability to scan stories as can be done in the print edition, it would be worth the switch.

I would love to get a Kindle with the Tribune subscription. We get it mailed to us since we moved and it takes 3 -4 days to get it. My husband would love to read the sports section the same day it's printed. That's what we miss most about Chicago- great newspapers, and maybe a decent hot dog.

I already subscribe to the Tribune on my Kindle and have done since I think, last August. You do not need the Kindle DX to do that. The regular Kindle does it just fine, and there is a list of sections, and then within sections, a list of articles.

I'd subscribe if more balanced newspaper sources were offered, i.e., not just NYT and Washington Post.
