I understand the frustration these families are feeling. I, my coworkers, and the Individuals living at a NYS Group Home in Amherst NY were poisoned by Benzene and other chemicals due to leaking underground storage tanks left buried under the home. These tanks were not properly abandoned prior to NYS purchasing the home/business in 1994, and NYS did not abandon the tanks either. They just covered it up. When the DEC, OSHA, and the DOH finally got involved, they fabricated their reports. We evacuated this residence for two months due to diesel fuel permeating throughout the soil, the sump pumps, and large cracks in the basement wall. When we returned, the cracks in the basement were still oozing diesel fuel, and the home reeked of fuel oil. I lost my health, job, insurance as a result of this exposure, and no one is being held accountable. The responses to my FOIL requests to the Town of Amherst, and Erie County Clerk have not been helpful. No one seems to know what this piece of property and the one next to it "used" to be, and there are no records for whent he home was built in 1950 as "the homes did not have street numbers at that time", so no information regarding this piece of property could be provided to me.
