“We weren't given much information. We're sad to hear about this because we were very interested in student entrepreneurship.”

The founder of a Platte County-based student-mentorship program is accused in a civil lawsuit of embezzling millions from his former employer.

In a petition filed last week, Ferrellgas Inc., an Overland Park-based propane gas company, accuses Platte County resident Scott Beeson of creating fake invoices and pocketing at least $3 million.

Beeson is scheduled to appear Monday in Platte County Circuit Court.

'We conducted an internal audit and discovered that a significant amount of money was allegedly taken from us over a period of several years,' said Scott Brockelmeyer, a company spokesman. Read more

Who is asleep at the wheel at Ferrellgas? How does a company that brags about having the best audit department in the industry allow a single person to steel 3.5 million dollars? The responsibility for this should be on the shoulders of the man at the helm. Is that Jim or Steve? I'm betting that it's Steve.

It's pitiful that some people can be so greedy. Was his six figure income and flexible schedule at Ferrell Gas not enough? Some people could be so lucky. Some people don't hve food or sheter. Were the kids at PY a cover for him. How Pitiful.

I can't imagine how a big company doesn't catch such a mistake. I believe Scott was trying to do good things but got caught up in something that he never should have done. The person I feel sorry for is his son...he is a Senior and graduating, getting ready for college. I'm sure it's been difficult for him trying to save face at school. PCHS is a great place and hopefully all students are treating him well. As far as punishment, a jail cell for a while should be the place.

I read in a paper that the
feds went to Nationwide LLC. and was lookin for 100+ trucks that they had paid for and were probably not going to get them cause they in reality, hadn't been orderd nor delivered by Nationwide. And a guy by the name of Karl Snyder was involved also. MY GOD...Were not talkin a, he say she say thing here. Were talkin, paper trail paper trail. It amazes me that someone could be that greedy, and stupid to think, or convince someone else that, "we won't get caught". It takes all kinds, or idiots. And Karl Snyder has been in jail for laundering already. Guess he will be back in jail....Totally.. GREEDY IDIOTS...

First, he owes Farrellgas $3.25 million. I'm betting he blew most of it. The fact there was a quick default judgment says one of two things: 1) He's taking the fall for everyone; or 2) There was no vendor involvement and thus Scott acted alone.

I bet he gets at least 5 years after the feds are done with him.

I'm totally shocked by all of this. About 10 years ago Scott Beeson coached my son in Baseball and Soccer. I thought the most of him, as he was always volunteering, and dedicating his time and effort for the kids. Scott provided excellent leadership and sportsmanship, I would have trusted him with my life. My family and I just can't beleive this is the same person. There must have been some unbeleivable pressure on Scott for him to do this. This is not the person I knew, or thought I knew.

What about all those high school students in the Prominent Youth program he started? Scott should be ASHAMED!!! He sure taught and led by example by showing the kids all about entrepreneurship by embezzling! Also, did you know that the students in this program also did not get paid their wages for the last month they worked or their expenses they submitted from the last two months when Prominent Youth closed down because of this? SHAME, SHAME, SHAME on you Scott Beeson!

I coached baseball, soccer and basketball with Scott for many years. My son looked up to him and respected him. Something must have gone horribly wrong after he moved to Platte County.

I'm also one of the parents who has known Scott for years and although it's been rare occasions that I've seen him over the last 5-6 years, he was always a good person - my daughter went to school with and was good friends with his son in elementary and middle school. Scott was just an awesome guy. It's his family that I'm worried for. This is just not the Scott I've always known.

Scott Beeson is and will always be a wonderful man!!! He has ALWAYS done everything he had to, to provide for his family. NO ONE and repeat NO ONE can judge him without knowing his position. And even then you will never know 100% what was going on in his life. PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES AND GOD FORGIVES THEM FOR THOSE MISTAKES. YOU should be ashamed for passing judgment on a situation you know less than 5% about. Don't take pitty on his family, take pitty on yourself. And may the naysayer never be judged or criticized at his worst time, because such a man wouldn't have the strength to deal with half of what Scott Beeson is going through!

I was in the PY Organization and I spent a lot of time with Scott during this time. I know that Scott didn't talk to his family alot during this time. So I agree with you that outside people shouldn't pass judgement when they only know 5% but that goes the same for everyone that was not affected by this.
I will say as a person that was affected by this I don't feel it is right to have someone come on here and scold me for having feelings about being manipulated negatively. I was not given my last paycheck and being a responsible adult I had to clean up a mess for three weeks after the star reported the story.
I don't feel like Scott is the worst person in the world, but I am not going to sit here and say that he is a wonderful man. He used kids and good people to commit fraud and then left making others clean up the mess he made. People that were involved in this situation and were left with out a job or out money have a right to upset and have the right to express their opinion.
You can't sit here and tell me that after stealing 3 million dollars that he was doing what he had to keep his family going. Scott had good qualities and I hope one day he finds them again and lives life a moral way. My advice would be to stay away from Karl, that is when we started seeing a real difference in Scott. Anyway my intention is not to bad mouth I just feel that some have the right to express the way they feel when they are affected by a situation

I know a lot of people got burned and left with nothing from PY. I experienced that first hand, I'm only stating that PY wasn't just a cover up. It was a great organization and he didn't just leave everyone out to dry. Don't attack me for addressing my opinion! state yours and that's fine, but if you're "seeking the truth" you won't find it on some blog. To add, I was not scolding, I was simply defending someone. Take your anger and point it somewhere else. Word to the wise, it's not healthy to let it fester.

sidenote: arguing with me will not fix your problems

I am not sure why it says I am from Cole Camp, I am right here in KC. Anyway I don't want to argue with you and I respect that you came on here and voiced your opinion and are sticking up for your family. It is also not really anger that I feel. It is more of being sad and upset. It is part of the process when you respect and care for a person, only to have it come back and bite you. I am not coming onto a blog to find truth and I understand that the only person that will ever know the truth is Scott. I am coming on here because I want to see what news is happening and what others are saying. I want to see what happens to Scott and it is not for vindication. It is because deep down I still care about his weel being and want to see him be able to turn his life back around and become again a good man that I still think he was at one time and still can be. I responded after your post because I felt like the words of the kids and adults who were affected had the right to be expressed. I was here after the story was broke and I did spend two weeks after the fact having to go and be the bearer of bad news and see the hurt faces in so many people. Scott wasn't there and to me that left a lot out to dry. People had that as there only job and they were left out to dry. I again respect that you have gone on here and stood up for your family. I hope that you would extend the same and respect that there are people that are still hurt and upset because they believed in a great thing that ended up being not so good in the end.

I don't know Scott, but I know Karl Snyder and I know the powerful persuasion he somehow manages to have over "Good" people. There have been countless victims in Karl's path to becoming rich in any way possible. All any of us can do is pray for his victims and wait for God to bring justice to Karl. In the meantime it would be nice to see charges brought against the true mastermind of fraud!

He plead guilty for christ sake. If there were someone else involved why would he not stand up and save face. Especially if he has a son that utimately will suffer for his sins. He needs to open his mouth and defend or take the blame and go on.
