Shop around? Your own article says there are currently no other electric companies offering a lower rate after January 1! Sounds like a monopoly to me!

If you want to buy solar or wind power, the alternatives, it will cost you 25 or 30% more. I think I'll take the 16% more for not.

When this charade occurred in the Harrisburg area last January, numerous other electric suppliers were available. Like HEV said, sounds like a monopoly to me, too. Of course this whole mess is caused by the State Legislature and the Governor who did not extend the current low rate law!

Of course you will Options...you probably work for Penelec. By comparing current electricity supplies with alternative electricity supplies (which no one spoke of) does not justify the greed of FirstEnergy

There is a wave of energy rate increases sweeping across the country. You can expect Penelec to apply for another increase in rates in the next couple of years. You can also expect them to tier the rates and increase rates in some or all of the tiers. Those with tiered rates now are looking at decreasing the amount of 'baseline' energy usage at the lowest KWh rate and increasing the next tier rate structure. There are options for you now. Use the ITC Federal tax credit and install energy efficiency upgrades to your homes, geothermal heatig/cooling, more insulation, double, tripple pane windows even solar hot wate and solar PV. Look at: www.dsireusa.org and see what programs are available in your area.
