WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- A former nuclear engineer at a FirstEnergy Corp. (FE) unit avoided a jail sentence Friday for lying to federal regulators about the safety of an Ohio nuclear-power station.

He never even spoke to a federal regulatory agency, so his conviction was a fraud.

So federales (for whatever reason) chose to blame some small fry for this fiasco (the alternative would have been to have the politically-connected big cheeses do the perp walk).

The judge sees the BS and allows the small-fry to walk away with a wrist-slap. U don't come dis'respecting da judge in his house!

And this, mes amis, is why SS "tUSofA" sails on, there's plenty of good to match the bad.

The System Engineer gets blamed again. If it was like refueling outages I'be been through, the Outage Managers call the shots regardless of what the engineers are telling them about the condition of the equipment. Outage Management just wants the outage completed in the shortest time regardless if everything is fixed and safe to run full cycle. Many of the top dogs have a big bonus riding on meeting the schedule. I've seen it too many times at different sites in the nation.
