Fords are the best for the money, once you get past how fugly they are.
I would rather like the looks of what I drive: instead of MPG's or Safety or latest tech on the dash. If looks weren't important, I would drive foreign Krap.

Consumer Reports not rating the Focus high in reliability or quality transmission. Ford seems to have hit or miss models. I see more older Contours and Taurus's than Focuses on the road.

I recently rented a new Fusion I-4 with 30k miles on it. It had a bad wheel bearing, slightly warped front rotors, and the engine wasn't as smooth, quiet, or as quick as my 2012 Camry I-4. I didn't like the lower seating position or the controls. The interior looked and felt cheaper. It had numerous rattles and what sounded like a vibrating exhaust shield at 1400 rpm. The tranny sometimes kicked at low speeds when it got confused. It handled better than my Camry and steering was precise, but required more effort than I'd like. The steering wheel was thinner than I'd like. The ride wasn't as nice. Ford still has a hill to climb to catch the best cars Japan and perhaps Korea have to offer.

Man, was I glad to get back home to my Camry! It's a clear step up from the Fusion. I've experienced zero problems in 17,800 miles. I have no rattles, squeaks, or vibrations. My tranny is sometimes busier shifting between gears than I'd like, but never kicks as hard as the one in the Fusion I rented.

I'm being perfectly honest here. Drive a Camry and an Accord before making that critical decision. I'm guessing the Fusion won't be nearly as reliable as either of them.
