At what point do all these small leaks add up to a big leak? Is it just me or does it seem as though this plant is leaking something nasty all the time?

Two Entergy planst shut down on the same day? That must be a personal best.

We can see why this company wants to unload these leaking plants. They buy a plant. Run it into the ground while extracting big dollars for stockholders and then sell it to the next company that does the same thing.

Vermont gets a little break on the power and stuck with huge clean up costs and a nuclear waste dump.

Sounds like a pretty good deal for Entergy.

Yup, SEVEN years to cool down at a min. The fact that our Reps and utilities did no long term planning to have energy sources in place to replace VY is what is criminal ! They KNEW this plant was getting older and did nothing! At this point and with all that has transpired it appears that the plant will have to close and we will get the shaft !!! At this point don't place all the blame on Entergy. Blame our lazy Reps and Utilities and our PSB (who has state oversight of plant). Follow the money folks who will profit the most from VY closing? Hint, look NORTHWARD my friends!

My concern is that Entergy hasn't deposited the REQUIRED amount of funding to decommission the plant into escrow. How does this happen in a regulated industry? Will VT have to pickup the bill if Entergy just decides to go out of business.

This indusrty has not been "regulated" since 1992. Vermonters will have to pick up the tab. HQ will gain huge profits. The legislature and utilites failed to plan for the eventual closure of the plant. Why? Because we were not paying attention. Again, Vermonters will pay. HQ will gain huge profits. If you have no choice now, get use to it!

Sorry but the blame for lack of planning goes straight to Jim Douglas. He has shown zero leadership on this issue. His only action was to say no to the purchase of 5 hydro dams that would have more than replaced VY's power. He also said no to wind. He pretty much just said no for 10 years. He won't be missed unless there's a ribbon that hasn't been cut

Sorry, but that ain't exactly so. You see a Governor can do nothing, I repeat do nothing without the approval of the House/Senate. If he House/Senate thought his proposal to NOT build 5 HYdro dams, was one they did not agree on, then all they had to do, IF THEY CHOOSE to, is put forth legislation and pass it to have 5 Hydro dams built. Same goes for his, according to you, alleged stand on wind.

The Goverm=nor has the ability to VETO, which him did on many occasions. Douglas was in Entergy Vermont Yankee pocket all along. It appears it was actually their front pocket where he pacified them with his own version of pocket-pool!

The legislature has the power to OVERRIDE the governor's veto AND they do, when they choose too. They have done that several times, most recent being the override of the Governor's veto of the budget. Don't kid your self the real POWER is in the legislature.
