Full story: Brattleboro Reformer

Shot down once, the owners of the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant continue pushing for a second vote by state lawmakers for a license extension allowing it to stay open past 2012.

Also happens to be true. And it is public information. Inquiring minds & 'We The People' want to know what those we vote to represent us are up to.

I live in Vernon, and I hope and pray they CLOSE DOWN in 2012 or earlier. It's too dangerous now to run it. Too many problems and after talking with an ACTUAL employee of VY Vernon taxes wouldn't go up due to all the work they've done there. He even told me that workers there want PEOPLE TO BE AFRAID OF THE TAXES GOING UP SO THEY WILL SUPPORT VY EVEN THOUGH ITS NOT TRUE. I would like to vote for Dubie for Gov. but will not unless he closes VY.

I am sorry what you are saying makes no sense at all. If VY closes then the property is worth less and thus grand list will go down considerably. If the grand list goes down and expenses dont then taxes will rise. Anyone who says differently is just not being honest.

(I am not awake yet)

For people who got balls, the only question to ask...how come 4 years ago VY wasn’t so important to NE and Vermont...how come Entergy didn’t spend the appropriate amount of money to keep the plant reliable... to keep the plant out of the bad eye of the public?

If they really cared about their employees, they would have kept the plant up to date. Everyone needs to understand, the plant was heading towards certain relicencing until the lies and not updating the radioactive pipes...spending money...they were penny pinching at the worst time in the plant life.

Don't you forget, they would rather and are forced to borrow monies for southern plants, than northern merchant plants!

You see the slippery slope Entergy and the plant are under...they are wasting hundreds of thousands dollars on this preventable and wasteful political games. They should be paying all those big bucks toward repairing the plant and fixing the bureaucracy.

You look at the millions of dollars they wasted on the tritium problem, all the TV advertisement...it would have been a lot cheaper if they done the right years ago, this is all diverting big bucks away from the plant operation.

What a waste of money and opportunity...and everyone is going to pay a price for this....

No way you live in Vernon. Taxes in Vernon will go through the roof. And real estate values will tank. And they will in Bratttleboro too.

It is a north/south civil war...and we kicked their butts the last time.

The Mississippi Attorney General bitterly complained about Entergy wasting money, credit rating and weak stock prices on the northern nuclear power plant dogs...jacking up southern electric rates because of wasting Entergy resources on northern aging nuclear dogs!

Mississippi Attorney General follows $1.3 billion money trail from Entergy to faltering Vermont nucl
February 26 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JACKSON, Miss.—In the wake of the Vermont Senate’s decision on Wednesday to shut down an Entergy Corp.-owned nuclear plant, Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood is questioning the company’s recent transfer of $1.3 billion from its parent company that oversees operations in Mississippi to its troubled nuclear program.
The Vermont Senate, in an unusual move, voted 26-4 to block the license extension for the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant, citing radioactive leaks, false statements in testimony by Entergy officials and other problems.
Entergy Corp., in its 4th Quarter 2009 Earnings Report, noted that the nuclear side of the company had received $1.3 billion from the utility that provides service to Mississippi taxpayers.
“My translation of the (transfer) means that the regulated utilities like Entergy Mississippi, which are subsidiaries of Entergy Corp., put $1.3 billion less in their pockets in 2009,” General Hood stated in a letter to Vermont Attorney General William H. Sorrell.“One of my claims in Mississippi is that Entergy Corp. has wrongfully transferred money from the regulated utilities to Entergy’s Nuclear businesses and that money should be returned to Mississippi ratepayers.”
General Hood wants answers to the following questions:
1. What is the source of the $1.3 billion cash payment from Entergy Corp. and its regulated utilities such as Entergy Mississippi to its nuclear program?
2. What is the intended purpose for the 2009 infusion of $1.3 billion in cash from Entergy Corp. to its nuclear operations?
3. Does Entergy Corp. plan to use any portion of the $1.3 billion to pay for the decommissioning of its malfunctioning nuclear plants, and, if so, which ones?
“The ratepayers of Mississippi—and the rest of those inside Entergy’s service area—have a right to know where their hard-earned money is going, and what it is being used for,” General Hood said.“When our ratepayers are paying their light bills each month, they should not have to worry that their dollars are headed to Vermont to pay for a leaking nuclear reactor.”...

Entergy leader desires harmony
planning plant overhauls
• By MARK BALLARD
• Capitol news bureau
• Published: Oct 4, 2010
The new head of Entergy’s Louisiana companies wants less confrontation and more harmony as company executives and regulators work through monumental issues confronting the state’s largest utility during the next couple of years.
“The approach I take in business is, let’s talk about things, let’s work things out. I don’t want to get into adversarial positions, even if we have different points of view,” said Bill Mohl, who recently became president and chief executive officer of Entergy Louisiana, LLC and Entergy Gulf States Louisiana, LLC. The two companies provide electricity to 1 million Louisiana customers — roughly half of those buying — in 58 parishes...

This is so completely untrue, I don't think this person is even telling the truth. Even the biggest lie fabricators (NECN) have not tried to use that argument. By the way whoever is in the Governor's chair will have no say in whether VY stays open or is closed, so vote for whoever you would like. The vote is one to send the question to the PSB to be reviewed by the legislature. That's it. Another lie brought to you by the "king of fabricators" Peter Shumlin.

I think people who are educated about the impact that Vermont Yankee has on our economy and our environment would know that there is NO reason that it shouldn't stay open.

I am all for Vermont Yankee and I don't care who knows it.

What do you think your taxes will do, go down? I am not trying to scar you, I am simply telling you this, look at the people in Brattleboro. They are paying twice or three times the amount you are in Vernon. Why do you think that is? Do you think that the town is just being nice to you? VY puts who know how much into the tax base of Vernon. Take that away and what do you have? A shortfall, that is what you have.

I say Dam up the Connecticut to replace VY, flood out Brattleboro and push-em west into the hills! This a win-win deal! Why let a perfectly good river go to waste!
