Basically the automakers were caught with their pants down in the gas crisis. With cheap gas prices, the automakers were relying on the profits of SUV's and trucks. Americans obliged by buying these big vehicles. Even the low prices now are a result of oil helping destroy economies to the point where nobody could afford anything. Americans need to make vehicles that are lean and reflect the needs of a changing world. Don't let the low prices now of gas stop us from making the needed changes for the future. We can make stylish, dependable, and fuel efficient cars. Europeans have known that simple cars with manuel transmissions are necessary. We need the automakers to survive but they need to restructure also and cut out the fat of some of the cars they make.

Deunionize the auto industry. Stop having to pay workers $73/hour. Pay a real wage for real work, not union wages. Imagine what a monetary infusion into the industry that would make!

Do you think Tanya Kayla Loya is too young to be a Socorro school trustee?
Yes. She can't even drink legally yet.
No. Intelligence is the most important.
I'm not sure.
Why do you think being able to drink is a quality required to perform a person's civic duty? I always thought you guys were full of crap this survey confirms it.

Some fallacies about the big three. They only make big trucks and SUVs. That's because that is what is selling in this country. In Europe for at least the past 10 years, they have been selling small diesel powered vehicles. That mandated 35MPG target made by Congress has already been done in countries like England, where Ford sells the Focus with a small diesel engine that gets around 35 to 40 MPG. The question you should be asking YOUR Congress(man/woman) is why the technology is not being used in this country? VW,Audi,Smart car all have small diesel powered units that get from 40 to 70MPG, why aren't they being sold here?

As an average American citizen, we really have no voice in who gets bailout money.
However, if the bailout goes through for the crappy big 3....Simple enough!...I will start buying, from the Japanese Big 3.@*?&*% them!

Misinformed people actually believe that auto workers earn 73.00 dollars an hour!
What about the heads of these failing car makers, the CEOs, that earn millions plus bonuses even though they have dragged their companies to the edge of bankruptcy?
The republicans merely want to protect their big business cronies on the backs of ordinary hard working Americans, that's why they voted against the bailout!
Republicans want the workers to agree to concessions and lower their wages, while at the same time allow these crooks to keep theirs!
The government is there to help their crony businesses, and their freeloading leeches, while the rest of us must, fend for ourselves, and "eat cake"!

chapter 11, no bailout. the big 3 need to go the route of europe. ford already has the lead since they already have the fiesta and fusion diesel that gets 65 mpg. they will start making it in chihuahua city in 09. we need to take the extra tax off diesel and let the us do like europe and go to 65% diesel.
its cleaner and cheaper to refine. keeping oil prices down puts money in the taxpayers pockets to buy other things. the automobile should not be a status symbol anymore. it should be a symbol of how stupid you have become based on what you drive.
