Who cares...

How about letting the Tiguas open the casino again? God forbid that they would let the Tiguas open the casino again.

WHY?

Because that would be the right thing to do. It would boost the local economy and create hundreds of jobs.

Closing down the Tiguas was only a repeat of history. History has taught us that indian tribes have always been robbed. They took their lands away and shuffled tribes all around. History repeated itself when they shut down the casinos and took their self sufficiency away.

It seems that people never learn from history.

And what has this governor done for El Paso these past eight years?
George W. Bush has been president of the United States for eight years and look at the mess this country is in today, pictures say a million words and George W. Bush looks really disgusting and worn out, but this man Rick Perry looks like what he has always been, a mean old crook, looks like the heartless "GRINCH" that stold everything and left Texas without a heart.

"When Perry took office, Houghton has said, influential business leaders in El Paso decided to put their money where their mouths were.

They contributed considerably to Perry and took an active role in promoting El Paso's needs to his administration.

Perry also appointed prominent El Pasoans to the University of Texas Board of Regents, the Texas Tech University Board of Regents, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission and other powerful boards.

"It gives you a seat at the table," Houghton said."

Ummm...isn't this "pay to play" in action???? What's different about this than what is happening in Illinois? NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!

So...according to Shapleigh and these other kool-aid drinking numb-nuts, the only thing tax cuts do is 'inflict budget cuts on public schools, universities, children's health programs and highway projects'??
Did you know that Texas' economy is the healthiest in the nation?
Do you think that might be a pretty significant fact, in light of the nation's economic condition??
Do you really believe that Sen. Eliot Shapleigh had much to do with that??
I'm happy with Obama, happy with Perry & I'm happy with Reyes - but I can't see what Shapleigh & Pat Haggerty have done for El Paso specifically - except perhaps to blame the Governor for their own ineffectiveness.
Perry does govern the State of Texas you know. Not just the City of El Paso.
Me thinks that our local government has done a very poor job of working WITH the rest of the state in securing MORE positive growth and changes for El Paso. Instead, they sit around drafting protest to things like the border fence - which incidentally, the WHOLE nation and entire State (of Texas) wish to see in place ASAP.
That looks more like politics to gain re-election than it does politics to gain favorable growth & change for your constituancy.

"His real legacy is tax cuts for the wealthy that inflict budget cuts on public schools, universities, children's health programs and highway projects," said state Sen. Eliot Shapleigh, D-El Paso.

Typical chicken sh*t Marxist class-envy pap. I love rich people. One of them gave me my first job. Shapleigh is a loser, and El Paso will likely continue to be a dusty, dirty little Democrotch town as long as the sheep-like voters continue to elect him and his ilk to state offices. There is no escaping it.

Typical Shapleigh sycophant. See www.libertymind.com for your diagnosis. Don't have to buy the book. Just read a few excerpts. If you recognize yourself, you could be well on your way to recovery.

Recovery is available for you - it really is. But you have to WANT it first.

Merry Christmas.

We are extremely lucky the governor has done anything for El Taxo. He gets nothing from us but votes for his oponnents, and insane liberal politicians to deal with. El Taxo is nothing but a revenue drain for the state of Texas. We take far more tax money than we send in-then BEG for more.

Actually gambling and whor/e houses is where most of the tax revenue came from for ELP back in the day. While these vices were illegal, ELP politians refused to enforce the laws.

It seems that people never learn from history.
It doesn't look like current events is your long suit either. Business in Las Veges is off by 26%, entire sections of casinos and hotels are being closed off to cut costs. Expansions are on indefinite hold. Similar trends are being reported in Laughlin, Reno, and Atlantic City as well as at Tribal venues nationwide and State Lotteries.

And the Tiguas made their own bed by getting in bed with folks like Jack Abramhoff to FIX their problems rather than do things the right way up front. They really thought that they could do what they want and then offer to buy off the state treasury and everyone would forgive them..... guess what, it didn't happen.
