I had a similar incident happen to me. My last name is of caucasion background although my appearance and ethnicity are obvious hispanic. I was offered and hired by ICE in Southern AZ without much of a interview because of my qualifications, education and extensive experience shown on my resume'. Once I got there and the Director met me and realized he had hired a hispanic, it went all downhill from there. At one point I was taken into the office and advised of "chain of command" procedures because I had e mailed the director about the air conditioning being out in the facility when it was 114 degress in the shade and my immediate supervisor had not responded. ICE has untrained, and in-experienced management throughout their organization.

This is very heartbreaking to hear because I was actually looking into getting in with ICE for employment.....looks like I will be reconsidering!

Good for Ms. Richardson and best wishes for her. Government including state government is becoming a joke. They need their asses sued!

Unfortunately you were retaliated against because you took a problem up the chain, NOT because you were of hispanic origin.

Oh that's surprising. A woman joins what is essentially a police force and is shocked that men make up the majority of the officers...

People need to get over themselves and accept some (not extreme) political incorrectness. Unfortunately, our society now rewards people who would rather sue than work..

This is an all too common occurence. Women and so-called minorities using their gender or race/ethnicity to complian about a job they found out they are probably not good at. These are the same people that say hire me and give me a shot because I am qualified. When things go wrong it is because I am a woman, black, mexican etc..
This is one of the many hypocracies of our country. Let's be gender and color blind until it is convenient to be otherwise. What a joke!!

John: If you bothered to read the article the case involves retaliation for reporting misuse of funds, a crime. It is not a case of a new hire complaining about "political incorrectness". Unfortunately our society has people like you that would rather judge or jump to conclusions when they have no idea what they are talking about.

Tony: Read my response to John. How about, let's be ignorant until it's convenient to be otherwise!
