here in el paso the largest employer is episd. when is the last time our city or epwu laid people off.
our budget is 9 mill short. when the highest employers are civil, you will have fewer layoffs because civil servants are always the last to get the ax.

the highest tax rates are in a suburb in California, so no El Paso doesn't have the highest taxes. Really you think its expensive you should see the rates in Chicago and others. El Paso is chump change compared to those.

This is great news!! Let's hope the city government takes the lead on this. Now lets improve the look of our highways/freeway and make them more green with beautiful trees and the like!

just read a report that are unemployment has actually increased within the past year.

Between april and december of last year, the number of ppl unemployed rose by at least 4,729.

Now also, the employment rate put out by the gov. is a flawed number. It only includes people recently unemployed, for instance it doesnt include those unemployed persons you have stopped looking for jobs. According to various outside sources the unemployemnt rate is much higher than the gov. reported one. Someone around 11% even as high as 17% and rising.

Truth be told, I tend to side with independent economists that dont really have to cook up the gov. outlook. See gov. numbers always tend to paint a rosier picture and have a questionable methodology.

heres a link to the report that says TX is feelingthe job loss: http://www.burntorangereport.com/showDiary.do...

and here's a link to the debunking of the gov.s numbers, which includes those persons who stopped looking for jobs, otherwise known as "discouraged workers": http://shadowstats.com/imgs/sgs-emp.gif...

Let me get this straight!
The city has warned us about an impending loss of tax revenue
and will have to cut spending, yet we now hear about El Paso being so lucky as to buck the job loss trend?
If the job market here is booming then, where's the added tax revenue that come along with those job gains?
With property tax increases looming due to the shortfall,
what's wrong with this picture?
As Ricky Ricardo would say, "OK Lucy, let's have it"!

LOL its sad when you see what people think is a "good" in El Paso doesnt even compare to Min wage in states like CA (8.00), OR (8.40), and WA (8.55). Guess those who choose to work like slaves on the border for peanuts will only expect what they know they are worth.
Hey, genius! When the border is leaking immigrants and employers find plenty of illegals willing to bust their hump for $6 while average Joe Whitey refuses to flip burgers for a living, low wages run amok in this situation.
