I am scheduled to test next week. Any advice on what mechanical questions or hand tools they may test me on.

Louie, Its a six part exam and covers basic math and reading comprehension and various entry level mechanical questions, they grade each section as you are finished and if you fail you are out, not trying to scare you, but if 50 ppl are taking the test , about 20-25 will make it to the sixth and final part, all sections are timed. Its tough, but thats the hardest part of the whole hiring process, I have been with the company for 2 months so I just went through it all. Good lUCK!!

Hey John, congratulations! I'm taking my PAT in a couple of weeks. About how long after the PAT comes the medical and how long did you wait to get hired? Just curious on what to expect. Thanks

No Donte, you have to finish each section in the amount of time given. Be sure to brush up on your math. Adding, subtracting fractions and mixed numbers, also long division.

Well I took my GUW exam early august, passed without an issue (only 5 in my group passed out of 30 or so), they sent us all over to HR immediatley to set a date for interview. We all got selected for a certain day, got quite excited because my grandfather worked for them for 32 years.

2 days before my interview, i get an email stating that all the interviews for that day were cancelled and they will re-schedule and email us accordingly. I hope I didnt miss the boat on the hiring process, few friends on the inside said they were in desperate need of GUW (7 in one dept alone), hes thinking someone decided to take off on the day of the interviews. Hoping hes right because Id hate to have to wait another year if they indeed stopped hiring.

I need some advice. I just got selected to join the elevator union for local #3.
But I'm still interested in working for ConEdison as a GUW. Both are good union job's with steady work, Pay and Benefits. I'm a little confused and need some advice.

I think they stopped the GUW hiring process for now. Take another job if you have the opportunity. I believe there may be one more GUW Class going in November then that might be it for a while.

Leo, I have been reading through all the previous post because I am taking the GUW test tomorrow. I seen you took the test in April but it has been months since you replied. Does that mean you passed the GUW test?

So upset at myself. I didn't study for the DMV part of the GUW exam and I failed! Stupid!
I got my license over 12 years ago and figured I need to study math so I disregarded the DMV part and here I am..... If anyone is going for the GUW exam please make sure to study for the DMV also.

Hey Freddie,

Taking my GUW test this week, I am fully prepared for the driving portion of the test. I have been studying a decent amount of math,(fractions, decimals, percentages ect..) Any advice you have for the test or any information regarding what I should be prepared for? Anything will help, thanks in advance!

Also regarding your question with the PAT this is what I have found in the recent posts by a gentleman named "DMAN"

"Took the Pat test. You had set up , climb and strap in ( around a telephone pole ) a 24 ft extension ladder ., use a ratchet to open a door In the correct series they tell you to , carry 10 40 lb sand bags which were top soil from the front of a truck to the back than to a area they tell you ( bout 15 ft away ) than back to truck so basically about 60 squats your doing .... You also have to assemble a 2 pc ladder and climb into a manhole than take the ladder out and break it down.
They show you a presentation and will do everything before each test. Ask all the questions you have to before they tell you to start. Each section is timed also."

I took the test in December. PAT stands for physical aptitude test. Did you do your interview yet? I interviewed last week.

I would say the best advice is to take little bathrooms breaks after each segment. You will see people just getting up and leaving TRY YOUR BEST TO JUST FOCUS! pay attention to the map portion (N,E,S,W) they change it up. If you have been practicing your math that's really good! Also, that DMV portion almost caught me off guard, but I literally studied it over and over the night before! Hahaha! Thanks for the PAT info! Good Luck on your test!! Seriously!

Nah! I haven't interviewed yet! That's why I am a little nervous man! Hahaha, but it's good to see people moving along! Was the interview crazy? Was it a two part?

The interview was long and they asked repetitive questions from a paper. There was 2 interviewers. The interview wasn't bad. They were nice.
