Maybe maybe not. You missed it but I doubt Duke will press charges and the trespass charge may be only a misdemeanor. The door chaining amounts to a ticket from the fire department. For certain there will be no trial, no tie up of the courts lasting more than a few minutes to accept at best a plea agreement. In the end this will go done as a none event, much ado about nothing.
Duke, by the way, is exploring some alternative fuels. "Nov. 13--It might not be as sexy as harnessing the wind, sun and water.
But electricity produced from animal waste and plant matter could become a major part of the state's renewable energy future.
Duke Energy Corp. says technology has improved to the point it plans to invest in biomass power plants, where animal waste and other organic material is burned directly or processed to generate electricity."

In NC Duke doesn't have a choice. The state of NC presses the charges. It's not up to duke and you are right, this is a non-event. It is fine to protest but protesting and breaking the law don't have to be mutually inclusive events.

Don't have to be but often are. It's called civil disobedience and is a well worn protest technique. Whether or not Duke us responsible, there will most certainly be a plea bargain here and it will probably entail nothing greater than a misdemeanor charge.

civil disobedience? to compare these kids to the likes of mlk and rosa parks is laughable. these chowder heads are just some mixed up kids who have been brainwashed by greenpeace and the gore crowd.
most likely the case will be dismissed not because duke does or doesn't want to prosecute but because meckleburg county is so short staffed in prosecutors that they don't have the time to worry about petty charges like this.
but i want to reiterate that these kids don't belong in the same breathe as mlk and those who were standing up for a true injustice. these chumps are just some misguided souls who don't have grander things to worry about at this point in their short lives.

Young people, if you aren't so stultifyingly old to remember, usually are quite idealistic while old fogies like you probably are, have become jaded and hope less. Youth is the time to make mistakes and learn. All the jaded critics need to cut them some slack and admire them for trying, not condemn them for the choice of methodology. Let he without error throw the first stone. <(-'.'-)> Grrrrrr!

You obviously have a problem if you only think of MLK and Rosa Parks when you think about civil disobedience. So many others have risked everything to fight for what they believe in. They are not "brainwashed by greenpeace." Obviously you are brainwashed by the American apathetic culture. The environment is suffering. So while you sit on your ass typing your ignorant comments, people are fighting.

Why would Warren Wilson students be concerned with water? They obviously never use it. Most of them reek with body odor.
How dare you. You are an ignorant bastard.
