Ms Angie wrote: <quoted text> Batch, there are a lot of methane digesters being developed and used in the state. I believe Zeeland Farm Services uses methane from a local landfill (don't quote me on where they get their source-I just know they use it) to power the majority of their offices and plant functions. There is technology available, it's just getting the public and our politicians to embrace and support these new ideas. Read about Sietsema's wanting to use turkey waste (ie: poo) to produce electricity for their Howard City feed mill. The Pierson Township board actually tabled the decision because neighbors are concerned about noise and smell. All studies compiled have shown both concerns are unfounded, yet our local government is still dragging their feet. Why? We have the technology available now, and the businesses willing to use them, why is it our government-local, state and national-are still keeping us in the dark ages? Ms. Angie, I read in the River Valley Shopper an opinion by "concerned citizen" who was against the Howard City project. I say build it as new forms of technology needs to be put on line today. I am hoping for that new MIT technology that stores energy from the sun to come on line to power our homes individually.

The thing that gets me is the same ones arguing against such technological advances being set up near them are more than likely the very same ones belly-aching about the price of natural gas. The MIT solar technology you speak of would be amazing. Hopefully though, once it does come online I won't have neighbors screaming that it's an eye sore and fighting against me installing it on my own property.

This isnt good since the almanac says this will be a very hard winter. so its going to cost people even more and the companies will be loving it. their profits go up as people freeze to death.

Yet we are still exporting natural gas. This leads me to belive that no matter how much gas, oil or alternative energy that we have it is not going to make a differnce to the middle class, The poor will get assistance, the rich do not care and we are once again left to pick up the check.

T. Boone Pickens wants us to power our vehicles with this expensive gas?

do you realize that we import zero natural gas??we have an abundance of it here in the good ole USA...there is absolutely no reason for it to follow the price of crude oil as the arabs dont control that resource...its greedy corporations that control the price, and politicians on BOTH sides of the isle that are allowing these companies like DTE for example to inflate the price to suit their stockholders wants...wall street wont be happy until they grind our economy to a halt...wake up sheeple!

Wait just a cotton picken minute here, wasn'y it T.BOON PICKENS The Oil Giant That said we should witch everything over to natural gas that we have soo much of it we don't know what to do with it all? Is this starting to make sense? We should be paying pennies on the dolaar if America is soo roc in this stuff.

Apparently there isn't enough of it coming out of those wells to make economic viable to save and use. Why do we pay as much for natural gas as the Desert SW? They have ZERO natural gas and we are awash in it.

It is truly amazing that we are forced to pay what we pay for natural gas in this state when we are absolutely saturated in it. I mean I truly like T. Boone Pickens Plan to convert our cars and everything else to natural gas and stop this dependency on foreign oil that does nothing but financially support terrorists organizations. But asmuch Natural gas as we have we should be paying almost nothing for it. I will be buying wood this year to run the fireplace just to be able to keep thedial on the furnace turned way down. So far compared to other fuels wood is still realtively cheap. So break out the extra blankets, keep the fireplace stoked, and turn the thermostat down just far enough to keep the pipes fom freezing. It looks like a long cold winter here in Michigan. I guss Mr. Pickens didn't plan out his plan very well because even withnatural gas being half what reg gas is as far a pricing it is till to darn expensive for this family. All I have to say is that it is a great thing that we have plenty of trees here in Michigan.
