I want to comment on the treatment that I received from DTE. I moved from Michigan to Tennessee in October 2006. When I left Michigan I was all paid up on my bills. After moving to Tennessee the accounts were closed and that was that or so I thought. This past June I received a bill from DTE for my gas bill. I couldnít figure out what was going on since the account was paid and closed. When I called DTE I found out that over the last year or so that I lived in Michigan the gas meter on my house was malfunctioning and that I had used more gas than the meter read. So DTE estimated the bill based on past use. I asked to dispute the bill. A representative told me that they would review the bill and would get back with me. On the 12th of September, 07 I got a call from a collection agency. DTE did review the bill but never contacted me but sent it to a collection agency instead. I have or had a good credit record,(802 FICO score) now I have this on my record because they didnít do what they promised me. I donít understand why DTE would treat people like this? On September the 13th I spoke with another representative from DTE and she was very polite and they are going to send out another bill. Had DTE just sent a second bill, final notice something in the first place I would have paid it but DTE doesnít offer second chances. So I sent an email to Governor Granholm to have the state of Michigan look into DTE policies of not giving consumers a chance to pair their bills.
