Now, before I comment, I want to make perfectly clear what an absolute tragedy this is. My heart goes out to those 3 children lost in this fire and their family. I could not imagine living through a hell like that. Now, if this is accurate, DTE says they had no record of anyone using utilities legally in this house since December. There are multiple programs and means to aquire help without trying to scam. These parents made a horrible error in judgement to just illegally rig electricity. Most importantly, it is extremely dangerous and second of all that raises rates on all of us who are trying to be honest and pay are bills.

I don't see the details of the fire anywhere, probably because they are still investigating. Still, someone could provide a clue. The power was illegally shunted for sure, but was that really the cause of the fire? It sounded more like the use of space heaters was the problem. I guess they could then blame DTE for shutting off the gas service. It was easier for this handyman to bypass the electric than the gas. Gas goes BOOM. Electricity goes ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Both are deadly.
