This story is about what’s happening now
in Cypriot Amdocs office. Amdocs is a big company (there are working more than 17000 employees in all world and it has centre of development in Cyprus, Brazil, India, U.S.A) that is making software products for companies like: Sprint-Nextel, Vodafone, Verizon, SBC. Because of economic crisis Amdocs Cyprus office has started discharge process, till now were fired 26 people and this is only starting. What is interesting is that 95% of fired people were Europeans, who are minority in Amdocs Cyprus office. The reason of the discrimination are the team managers and leaders, who are indians and make a decision about “bad” people, certainly one indian man cannot make another indian the “worst” worker in a team. Another portion of discrimination cake is a fact that too many indian people suddenly went for unplanned holidays or business exactly at the time people were asked to leave the company. Finally we see the real face of “Interracial culture” that is popularized by Amdocs. Some facts: In Cypriot Amdocs office are working 85% of indians and about 14% of Europeans. During the financial crisis were fired 26 people, 21 of them are Europeans and 5 indians. If we calculate this numbers against whole numbers of workers we see, that were fired more than 10% of Europeans, and only 1% of indians. |

Report this to their HQ. keke

That's just inappropriate. I have seen the Cyprus offices and the majority of employees there really are Indian, I would say 85% is not an understatement. This type of discrimination is uncalled for, and I certainly hope Amdocs does address this issue.

I hate to admit this, but Amdocs is evil. I know first hand.

1 Mr. Smith, please check your facts first. Then, check the latest numbers too. And, don't try to get support to your argument by fudging or selectively presenting the information. Make sure, you talk all sides and all aspects, as accurately as you can. |

There is something annoyingly wrong with every indian I met.
Maybe my bad luck ... |

I have to second Alexx. The Jan 09 wave of layoffs was about the same. Lots of Moldavians, Romanians and Ukrainians were laid off, percentage wise. In our project only 1 out of 5 canned was Indian.
There is lots of favoritism going on - we see certain (Indian) people being promoted and advertised despite their lack of skills, while others (non-Indian) are being moved to dead end positions even though they are professional and ready to become group leader. It is quite discouraging, but there is not much one can do from within the company. Many EU country Europeans quit for the few years I've been here. I am not fudging anything, just writing on what I observed while being employed in Amdocs. To anon: please post the facts regarding layoffs if you are better informed (I assume you are from HR). People would benefit from knowing the truth. To Dorinel: let's keep it civilized, please. I met many Indians who are good or better than me. This is not an issue of like/dislike. Thanks. |

Anonymous2, probably you have been luckier than me and met different kind of Indian people.
On other hand, if you want to be politically correct ("civilized"), you shouldn't back the author of this topic. Indian or not is irrelvant :) IMO, being kicked out from a company such as Amdocs, could be a great thing for some :) Just go to HR/CEO and tell him/her about this problem. And then look for a better job. In my experience, in the companies where office pollitics takes a lot of intellectual effort, the work quality goes drastically down. There are too many political issues in Amdocs. Run ... Run ... Go do something productive! |

nice to see this post ...
years back indians used to say this about british and the europeans . its a cycle .. the power shifts :D |

I am working in Amdocs for last 5 years. It is true that a good % of workers are from India and Israel. I believe it is because of their hard work and profesionalism and the ability to face challenges. In a company like Amdocs, you should dedicate yourself for achieving your goals (It is true in any company) and Indians are good at it.
Please read this also the reasons behind less indian lay offs. |

In Dallas, the strong favoritism the Indians show each other is very real. They take care of each other on the job. And, when it comes to finding positions when jobs end, they promote their own people over just as competant non-Indians, even the lazy ones and the wives of employed guys. It's a very strong social group.

Hey everybody.. Indians works smarter and harder thats why they sustain ..... You european, american, etc you will work for certain hours and you work according to your work condition and you think you should be keep in job.. In this time you have to put extra efforts but you dont like... Indians work lot harder and extra hours daily but they never ask for overtime but you guys ask for overtime always. You should be supportive to your company in such periods.. You should not ask extra pay if you work extra hours. And also Indian are ready to work in less salary but you all want to work with great salary.. Guys this is not the time to fight, this is time to get work and leave ....
So try to work in less salary.... |

Amiy sorry but you are wrong, all the people work hard. For that reason they still there.
No one can argue than in the sites exist some kind of "clans". In some sites are Indians in others Russians in other Israelis. They protect each other for good or not is part of the Amdocs culture. I has been in sites where the husband was the boss of the wife and of course receive nice bonuses or evaluations. The problem is not performance is part of the culture inside. Is curios that no one talk about the Brazilian DC for example, they also work hard and the salary doesn't goes on par with the european. So please instead of argue look inside and you will see that the Indians in the future will have also their own cast problem. If Amdocs want to go forward need to change the internal culture that is all. |

"The Truth about Amdocs" I second that. I have worked at Amdocs in IL for few years. Most of the workers (specially Indians) work harder and not smarter. There is no reward for doing good development and keeping bug count minimal. But there is a big reward for doing a lousy development job and breaking the application in production. Production issues are always hot and the developer gets called at the odd hour to fix his/her shit. After several hours of "hard work" the bug gets fixed/patched and the developer is treated like a god. 90% of the employees are technically incompetent and most of the people have very poor communications skills. Nepotism is big part of the culture and promotions are solely based on how well you get along with your manager or if you speak the same language as your manager.
I would not recommend everyone looking for job to stay away from this company. |

1 I beg to differ. Worked with a number of Indians and I can tell you from experience, I've met more Americans who simply don't deserve the posts they hold. There are a lot more competent and hard-working Indians than there are Americans, who generally start complaining the moment they're asked to work 1 minute past 5 PM. On the topic of Discrimination, ever heard of the Good 'ol boys club? Americans are no exception to nepotism. So, lets quit pretending that we're lilly white saints. You claim to have worked in IL, would that be the Champaign site? The one that was in the toilet before Amdocs bought it from ITDS? The problem is not competence, nationality or race. Amdocs, like everyone else, is in the business of making money. When competition lowers their prices by off-shoring jobs to countries where labor is cheap, Amdocs has to do the same to survive. I believe they are being proactive and going all out to off-shore as much as possible now but I can't say that for a fact, just my hunch. Write your senator and ask why American jobs are being sent overseas. India (or which ever country jobs are being sent to) is not the problem. It's us, our goverment, our business practices, globalization and, our greed. I'll take hard-working Indians any day, over the multitude of Americans on welfare that mooch off my hard-earned tax Dollars. |

Alex, Late to read your story so late to react.
The people who were laid off either never understand the need of amdocs or simply that they enjoyed because they thought Indian's are there to do his work. Out of those 26 (irrespective of which national they are), none stayed by the project when it was needed or simply they were not smart. So, see why it is happening by being honest and do a self judgment before making statistics. Now statistically, open the work hours report and see the percentage of people that put on extra hours without asking for extra money. and then calculate all kind of percentage and post it. Our next discussion will be on that, Alex. Come on.........show your analytical skills. |

1 Ar2 you afraid when you call people you do not know call names? People working in India oficces never follow the processes, work much slower, get away with anything, because they are there, and nobody follows up with them. I lost count of how many times I was getting calls in the middle of the night from mycounterparty in Pune that he is trouble because he had no clue how to do stuff. Now who needs to put in overtime: the clueless person or the one who develops the consepts. I worked in that hell for 1 years, 7 out of them was on call for 24/7. All people who were let go in my department are americans and without the second income. Sure thing that wifes, buddies and pregnant will be untouchables. All this is the result of management being Indians not americans or people from Israel. |
