Looks like things aren't so rosy for Quad either.
I see more "cost containment" in the future.
Good luck to all of you that are still working.

Latest rumor is that Quad is trying to back out of the WC buyout. After seeing this, cant say that's all that crazy.

If it were true that they want out of the deal it is pretty easy. They pay the break fee and they are out.

Would be the best money they ever spent.

Don't forget that historically this is the slow time for print and of course the first quarter will be down.

You are correct n your statement, BUT, it should be down as compared to the rest of the quarters in the year. If it's down DOUBLE as compared to the same quarter of LAST year, then that is not a good indicator of things to come. If it was down 10% or 15% it probably wouldn't be too much to worry about, but DOUBLE??
I think things will get interesting for ALL employees very soon. Lets hope things get better!!

It is pretty much a done deal with Quad and WC. Joel sent us an email that said the deal should be completely down early in July. Everything is going as planned and working out well. One other thing to consider is that in years past all the financial information has been closely gaurded and the number that are being compared are not apples to apples. Now if in a year from now the numbers are saying they are at a double loss I would say thier is something to worry about but for now the dust is still settling. I dont see any way that we are loosing that much money we are fairly busy and a large majority of our equipment is running balls out.

Did the naysayers even read the article? It states that Quad lost 8.5 million. It may be double the previous year, but it's not that much. I'm sorry, but that doesn't seem so bad considering this is the slowest time of the year and we are still feeling the repercussions of a recession. 85M or 850M would be something to worry about, but this is nothing. Employees are receiving paychecks and work is going on, just not much in the way of overtime. I am ok with a company losing that little amount when I know that they will make up for it no problem in the busy season.

As a Quad Employee you should BE concerned. YOU personally took a FREEZE on your wages and concessions on your benefits.(Its all spelled out in the S4, no point trying to deny it) That means that Quad SAVED money on labor compared to what they WOULD have spent normally. Even with that savings from wage freezes and from "idling" equipment, etc ..., they STILL lost money.

They need this merger as much as WC does.

I just prey they ABOLISH WC management and its abhorrent HR and management practices.

They should get rid of ANYONE that ever worked for Burda or RRD for shure. All they ever cared about is making sure they can pay for their big houses and their fancy cars. They could care less about anyone else as long as they were taken care of.

I agree. How does a smaller company losing big money (for a company that size), buy a much larger company losing even more money and expect to survive let alone thrive? Up to the point that this article came out, everyone made it sound like Quad was doing very well, everything was rosy. This is probaly going to be worse than even the doomsayers imagine....

oh my gosh- take a chill pill! Quad had some of the lowest quarterly losses in all of the print industry. All printers lose in the first Q. I know it's hard when you've been getting screwed over for so many years, but try and have a little faith. Quad is no savior, but they are fair. They've done well for their employees in the past, and I don't expect that to change now.
Oh- by the way (in case you haven't heard)
there's this thing right now called a recession. That could explain a lot, don't you think??

Please keep in mind that when a merger such as this occurs, the object is to weed out the dead wood and keep the quality in order to create a successful corporation.Much like a professional ball club, the new team must work together or they will be out early!

I am not sure exactly what the s4 said however what ever the concessions were they really didn't affect me at all I still got my yearly raise as did most everyone else.
