Activists take Trump to court on Jones Beach restaurant

A Nassau civic leader today went to court to block a state hearing scheduled for Westchester on Tuesday on the controversial Trump on the Ocean project at Jones Beach.

who is Pat? she does not represent me. and this park belongs to Long Island, not Wantagh and Nassau.

It is completely arrogant for anyone to suggest that Nassau is going to hurt from this. most of the jobs will be Nassau people, most of the consultants will be Nassau people and sales tax goes to Nassau. Suffolk gets nothing from it. but as a lifetime Jones Beach user, Long Island needs projects like this, we need companies to hire our kids, and we need to get money back into supporting the Park that most Nassau folks (according to the comments here in Newsday blogs) think has turned too ethnic. At least the folks using the park use it, pay for the parking etc. unlike the Nassau people who complain NYMBY !!!!! grow up and support progress, not a grey haired old woman from Garden City who wants to ruin progress. I bet she would have been against Garden City being developed when and how it was, if it was a new project today.

Civic activist are people who want to tell you that you do not know what you are talking about before you get a chance to outline your goals, vision or plan of action. They are reactors, not doers. Another Long Island and resident of Nassau County once said:

With that said, the state and the Trump Organization should explain how the project was planned and approved by the NYS Parks organization. This is not a failure of the developer at uts face value, it is a failure of leadership by the government organization who is responsible for planning, justifying, and stewardship on behalf of the taxpayers of the state of NY, who would benefit from the cost avoidance a public private partnership would create.

Did the state have an advisory committee to ask questions before the contract was scoped and developed?

Did the park administration and the program managers for public private development have responsibility for architectural guidelines, technical criteria, and holding hearings on the business model?

Why do people in Wantagh seem entitled to taxes when the park is clearly on state property - I would want taxes to be paid to the town and county for infrastructure if warranted - no additional burdens are created for the local school district?

It seems to me the political critics and civic mavens are imitating Claude Raines from the scene in Casablanca where he exclaims

Captain Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!

The self appointed critics of this project need to stand down. You do not speak for me, or for many other people. The project has problems, and the market will take care of this in its own apolitical manner.

I hate people like pat....why can't we have a nice restaurant at jones beach, why do we have to look at a mess they over there now. Why can't we have a classy place, let the man build something nice there you f...ing trash of a human being. Go volunteer your time to feed the homeless you piece of nothing. Don't you hate these people that have so much time in their hands.......go figure something else out...world hungar, homelessness, the situation in kenya, something else you a...ss hole. Is there really a problem with having hearings on a project being built in Nassau, in Nassau? If the construction is behind schedule, whose fault is that? Should that be a reason for the people of Nassau County not to be heard? What's the harm in the hearing being in Nassau County? What is Trump afraid of?

Good for her. The people of Nassau have a right to be heard, and Trump should not be allowed to have the hearing in Westchester. The property in question is not in Westchester, thus the hearing should not be there.

Trump was late in filing intentionally, because he wanted the hearing in Westchester where there would be less resistance.

This woman did the right thing, and I applaud her.

It is a New York State Park. Hense the hearing should be allowed to be taken place anywhere in New York State. Why is Wantaugh so important that this hearing be suited to them. F-M all and have the hearing take Place in Albany, or better yet Niagra Falls so when Trump gets his way all the Wantaugh residents can jump off the falls.

Leave Jones Beach as a beach not a future casino. Hold the state accountable for its mismanagement of the beach and force them to fix it up instead of giving the money to medicaid/wic/food stamp/illegal alien welfare recipients.
The people who want this built are ginzo construction unions looking to put the squeeze on the developers.
The only costruction at Jones Beach should be to lower the bridges even more to keep out the Bronx.

Despite being in a NY State Park, the people most affected are Nassau County residents. To have the hearing ANYWHERE other than Nassau is an obvious ploy. I'm not against the restaurant or Trump, but if they are going have a hearing it must be done locally.

Who said anything about keeping business from coming to Long Island? All I said is that the people of Nassau have a right to be heard.

What you or I pay in taxes has nothing do with this. Whether this restaurant is permitted or not will have zero impact on our tax bills.

Regarding this one facility bringing jobs to Long Island. If you really care about bringing jobs to Long Island, at least try to find an issue related to bringing jobs which pay living wages to Long Island. This facility will bring mostly minimum wage service jobs.

Now, do you have an intelligent comment to make, or are you going to continue displaying your idiocy?

The park is located in Nassau County, and any impact the facility has on the local area will impact Nassau County, not Westchester.

Hence, the hearing should take place in Nassau County and the residents of the County have a right to be heard.

This is a very simple concept, do try to keep up.

but i think teddy would have thought that what happens down at jones beach should be a testament to the very mantra of the beach itself, which is to say that it should be accessable to all. partys for 1200, and refrigerated garbage rooms does not sound like a place where the guy who powerwashes your driveway could take in a meal.

And how accessible are the overpriced burgers and bottled water to some people?

It's all relative.

I think that the argument of how a restaurant at the beach should be accessible to everyone is a pretty poor one. Did you come out crying for the poor when they renovated the restaurant in Eisenhower Park? Not exactly a cheap place either. I don't recall hearing everyone crying about it. So why use this argument at Jones Beach?
