Disney earnings withstand economy's tough times

Soaring gas prices and economic woes were no match for pixie dust earlier this year, as gains in attendance and sales at Walt Disney World helped produce banner quarterly earnings for Walt Disney Co.

Every one loves coming here or has never been here so that means the buisness will still be growing.

the disney employment web site has "exciting" employment opportunities from $6.60/hr. all the listings are for part-time so - sorry!- no benefits available. could this slave labor be a reason Iger is so hopeful the company will thrive in the economic downturn??
gee - maybe raises all around to, um,$7/hr.?? whoppee. LOL. Disney bites - work at Target, they give health benefits. or get some job training in something related to tech or health care. don't give your precious time to the Mouse.

Disney is an escape from the real world and people need that break. Disney is no different than any other employer, most part-time jobs do not offer benefits and most only pay minimum wage. Think about this if Disney did not exist, think of all the people who would be out of a job. I am not saying they are correct in what they pay employees but most employers these days get a way paying less and less for wages as imigrants come in to our country and will work for less. While employers will hire the imigrants for less why would they give an increase in pay or hire an American. Disney hires many people who other wise might not have a job.

Yes they do, like the 8 out of 10 'cast members' who do not speak English.

Here's a test the next time you are in a Disney park. Go to a kiosk and place an order for anything (a soft drink for example). See if the 'cast member' selling you the item greets you, says anything to you or thanks you for your purchase.

If they dont bother to speak, ask them a question that forces them to have to answer.('which way to the Buzz Lightyear ride?') then wait for a response.

If you get lucky they may speak some English. Chances are probable that they will just shake their head and shrug their shoulders.

Furthermore, they wont know where Buzz Lightyear ride is either because of a dire lack of customer service training by Disney HR.

The relatively low value of the US dollar against the Euro is a strong incentive for Europeans to visit. I would imagine that the exchange rate is keeping more Americans from travelling abroad, which means that their tourism dollars will stay in the country as well. Either way, WDW stands to profit from current market conditions, as do other domestic vacation destinations.

That's because they had fewer visitors but doubled the price. That Mickey is one smart mouse. However, they will price themselves out of business in the future. The dirt poor kids are the one's that need Disney and they are the one's that will never get to go. Mickey don't really care about all the dirt poor kids or they would let them in for free. Yeah! Right!

We dont need any dirt poor kids at Disney. There's already more than enough white trash about the place.

And if you allow poor kids in the gates you have to allow their welfare single mothers and absentee mullet head dads in with them.

No thanks to that.

Disney should pass some of that profit to its employees. Give them a raise. I guarantee the pay in surrounding areas will go up aswell.

They may have escapted a bullet the first quarter but let's see what they make the next quarter. Oil should be about $150.00 a barrel by then and gas about $5.00.

Disney and tourist attrctions will make money because tourists from first world countries will go to third world countries like ours because everything is so cheap compared to their home, But when they notice how dangerious and crowded everything is here they might not come back then where will we be

Its the tourists from other countries. Don't see too many people from the U.S. unless their music-fest or cheerleaders.

Target is NOT a employee friendly company. The best thing that could happen to Target employees would be for them to talk to an union organizer.I personally know 4 women who worked for Target for over 10 years who were termed once they made top salary. All were over 50. One was termed 3 days before retirement.
Boycott Target!!
