I worked for Dollar General for 7 years. 2 1/2 years as manager. In all my years of working this had to be the worse job I ever had. They have no respect for their employees. I was told going in by the District Manager that the most shrinkage comes from the employees. Now I'm sorry but who would lose their job for the cheap crappy stuff they sell. But I did quit my job because I couldn't take the long hours 70 to a 100 hours a week according to what the district manager decided for us. Payroll hours cut so I had to do the Planograms stocking, working after the store closes for hours by myself trying to please this stupid person so he would leave me and my employees alone. He would come into the store and if you spoke he would mock you. We called the labor board and we have a law suit against them for what he did to us as employees. You don't have to take this crap from them. They are breaking the labor laws and they can not come in and treat you the way they do. Our pay period started on Saturday. By Tuesday I had already worked 44 hours and when he came in on one of his rants I walked out and called the regional manager and she upheld for him. Really didn't expect any difference. They tried to beat me out of my pay and I called them on it. They didn't want the labor board called in. I was a salaried worker which to the big DG that is free labor. The only thing they do is run sweat shops. They overwork and underpay their employees. I could write a book on the abuse from this DM and the regional manager upholds him in everything including sexual harassment. He comes into the stores and he knows where the cameras are and he will grab himself or rub his nipples and grin at the female workers. It doesn't do them any good to complain, because it goes only to the Regional manager. But things will change if the workers as a whole would unite and walk out and picket these stores. That is another thing on the agenda here. We have already called our mayor and everything.

I agree with everything you said and it really helps to know that it isn't just my team overreacting. Your story could be my story. Ridiculous hours, no support. Employees desperately underpaid and treated like garbage. DM threatening to fire wonderful MODs who have NEVER missed a day of work, just because they can't afford to buy a car of their own on $8 an hour. The company keeps building store after store when they won't even staff the ones they already have! Please tell me KARMA will take care of these monsters!

From their facebook page there is no change and never will be. The store here in Kentucky is bad. Store #2426 to be precise. There has been two managers and two asst. managers in the last six months and the one that is there now is almost ready to quit. She walked out once but the district manager talked her in to coming back. That won't last because that is the way Mr. Bell works. His thing is dollar general hired him to be an a$$ hole and that is what he is going to be. He will soon run his race. You don't treat people the way he treats them and the regional manager Tina Napier allows him to and get by with it. I have found out you pay for what you do to people. Dollar General will soon go under because of the way they treat their employees. Underpaid and overworked. Managers free labor.
