Dollar General DC in Zanesville,Ohio fired 15 supervisors & is saying they are laying off....yeah it's a PERMANENT LAYOFF. They're giving the "LAID OFF" workers severence pay. Who do they think they're kidding??? So much for never laying off!!!

I work in Scottsville DC, day shift and weekend shift are getting 2 different stories. W/E got news of no more Sundays and going to A-B-C crews or shifts. Day shift was not told about it. Anyone got info to share?

I work a the Fulton, Missouri Dollar General DC 14 supervisors got laid off and 45 people altogether have been laid off. The entire weekend shift is being terminated on March 1. All workers will now rotate in to other positions instead of doing the same job. There will be no more loader, casepack, non-con and etc jobs instead people will all hold the position of General warehouse worker and alternate jobs effective March 1. I am a loader so it will be nice doing something else. I can't wait to see the people who do the less physical jobs do casepack and loading because I remember how loading kicked my butt when I first started working in shipping.

I also work at the Fulton DC. I was informed that the only people getting a severance package are those that have had their jobs eliminated (security, D.O.T., unloaders). People who work weekend shift do so for a reason. The single income households, single parents, and full time students are being forced to separate because they either can not afford daycare to work a weekday shift, or are enrolled in school full time during the week. They will not be receiving severance, or even their team share bonus despite the fact that they have been there all year. What makes it worse is that DG kept this under wraps until the very last minute and gave everyone just four days to rearrange their entire lives. Not only was it unfair to the people who have busted their butts for the company, but it is unethical as well. BigAl...I don't know how you can find any part of this amusing. I understand loading trucks is very hard, but to wish to see our older employees forced to do such strenuous work in order to earn a paycheck is sad. If they can't do the work, they will be fired. That is not funny to me.

From what I understand is that those eliminated positions have the option of applying for a job to remain at DG. If they are offered a position, but choose not to take it, they will still get their severance. Any person that has not had a job eliminated will not get severance if they leave the company. For instance, a security guard applies for a office clerk position but is offered a general warehouse position instead; they can choose not to accept the offer and still get their severance because their security position was eliminated. Now, if a repack person applies for a non-rotational repack position, and they are offered a rotational general warehouse position, if they leave the company they will NOT get severance because their position was not eliminated. Unemployment depends of the availablility you listed on your appliciation when you first applied to DG. If you listed you can work any shift, any job- you probably won't get least in Missouri. If you listed you can only work one shift, or only a specific job and you are offered anything other than what you listed, you can leave and still qualify for unemployment...again, at least in Missouri.

Blame DG and KKR for what is happening. The people who took the severance did because they had to. It affects everyone, but it affects they people on W/E shift more. They have kids or school (or both) to take care of. I have told them that school is more important the working at DG. W/E shift had 5 days to change their lives for DG and that is not right. Good hard working people who put in alot of work at DG do not deserve to be treated like this. These changes were not explained so everyone who were forced to take these options understood. That is not right. We made this company what it is and we deserve more.

my son was a great employee and on the day that it was a level 3 in Zanesville, ohio he was sent home by his supervisor and was aware that it would be no pay. The next day he worked all day and was fired at the end of the day. I was aware that when there is a level 3 it is against the law to be on the roads????? So DG doesn't care about it's employees at all!!!!!!!!! Just the CEO's and bosses that make all of the money....and as of yet, no I hope they all lose their jobs and that they have to shut the doors.
