uh, solar power? If solar was given the gov't assistance that the oil companies have had for decades, it would be adopted by all. If R&D dollars were invested in alternative sources there would be better solutions. If tax incentives were given to those that used alternative energy, other uses would decrease. Until alternative fuels and energy sources are funded and researched like oil was, oil will always be easier. It's the default.

Solar Really?
do you realize how much money the Obama administration has poured into Solar and what do we have to show for it?

http://blog.heritage.org/2012/10/18/president...

Solar is wonderful, but not ready for prime energy supply,

Do Solar panels work at night? how about in cloudy weather?

how about in the short hours of daylight in the winter?

do you realize they require lots of water to be constantly washed to maintain efficiency?

It's good that we make some progress like solar walk lights and those school zone lights that are solar powered.

Yes, oil was made by the earth, but is it free for all who inhabit the earth? Pffft.

In 1934, Nikola Tesla, the “Einstein of Electricity” announced to the world that he had discovered a way to make energy FREE TO ALL, by harnessing the rays of the sun and causing them to operate a motive device, while NOT spending a small fortune on solar panels, NOR REQUIRING SUNSHINE.

However, rather than support his new findings as they had so many others, the government actually cut his funding and hushed his ground-breaking discovery. At his death, both his body and his papers mysteriously disappeared.

Hmmm, that's because the GREEDY who control everyone & everything won't make billions off of such an invention. Instead, those greedy control freaks would rather everyone be dependent on oil, oil that THEY control and therefore benefit from.

If you have oil beneath your property and care to drill for it you can have oil for "free".

not very practical for people to try and have their own oil wells and back yard refineries.

we can also grow vegetables for "free" but many prefer to buy them at a market instead of growing their own.

Nothing like a good conspiracy theory,
Tesla was one of our great minds, maybe free electricity cold have been a possibility or maybe it's urban legend. Tesla alsom have some other far out ideas like electrical "death rays" so we don't really know if it would be practical or a dream of Tesla's .

and it's not really relevant to this thread about Co-Gent.

Wow you really show your ignorance here. Night? Cloudy? Energy gets stored and released either in batteries or in heat storage like stone, marble, etc. Washing to improve efficiency? suggested monthly unless it's winter gunk or construction dust, son't you have to change your furnace's filter monthly or quarterly for efficiency?

I can only hope the feds invest and spend more money on alternative sources, as well as increase tax breaks for those who use them.

well stated. Who owns the sun? As soon as big business figures out how to own it, there will be movement on their part to adopt it. For now, what motivates them to change?

work fine on a small scale,
do you think you could store enough to run central air conditioning for your home?
Can you power a grocery store this way efficiently? NO
there have been some retail stores with solar panels but they have not provided all the power for the building.
even most residential solar electric panels keep a connection to the power grid to supplement power for nights and cloudy/rainy days.

do an internet search on solar panel cleaning services, see what results you get, yes you could wash then monthly but in-between cleaning you are loosing efficiency.

Our Government has spent Billions on alternate energy, and look how many of those companies have gone bankrupt.

we need an "all of the above" energy policy.
sun and wind plays into it but it will be a long time before we can supply major energy needs on just sun and wind.

also remember oil is not just gasoline, diesel and jet fuel.
it in a major component of materials that make our life better and safer.

citation please for the "billions" spent. bankrupt companies, really? again citations please. I do know that oil and petroleum based products make plastic; see my earlier posts about plastic. I do however quibble that our lives are better with all that plastic, see the oil problem that is a result.

List Of Failed Green Energy Jobs & Companies – By Obama
Update: 7/19/12: The Amonix Solar: FAIL!– manufacturing plant in North Las Vegas, subsidized by more than $20 million in federal tax credits and grants given by Obama Administration, has closed its 214,000 square foot facility a year after it opened.
Solar Trust of America: FAIL!- Filed Bankruptcy in Oakland, CA, April 3, 2012
Bright Source: FAIL!- Bright Source warned Obama’s Energy Department officials in March 2011 that delays in approving a $1.6 billion U.S. loan guarantee would embarrass the White House and force the solar-energy company to close. Bright Source lost billions of dollars but is getting more money to keep trying.
Solyndra: FAIL!- Obama gave $500,000,000 (that’s a HALF BILLION!) in taxpayer money to Solyndra who shut its doors and laid off 1100 workers in August 2011 after billions in losses due to failure to make a solar product that works! Barack Obama was not vetted before being elected President and neither was Solyndra before Mr. Obama threw that taxpayer money down the drain of unproven technology.
LSP Energy: FAIL!- LSPEnergy LP filed bankruptcy protection and a sale of its assets in Feb 2012
Energy Conversion Devices: FAIL!– On February 14, 2012 Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. and its subsidiaries filed for bankruptcy
Abound Solar: FAIL!- Abound Solar received a $400 million loan guarantee from Barack Obama then announced in June, 2012 that it would file for bankruptcy. Many of these failed corporations, such as Abound, donated MILLIONS and continue to donate to Barack Obama’s campaign. Can you say,“Democrat Slush Fund”? Yes this is illegal. But Democrats are being protected from being prosecuted, for now.
SunPower: FAIL!- SunPower stopped producing solar cells in 2011 at near bankruptcy then restructured with the help of, get this, oil giant TOTAL, Inc. who owns 60% stake in SunPower. Irony? The company is still struggling.
Beacon Power: FAIL!– Beacon Power Corp filed for bankruptcy protection in October, 2011 just a year after Obama approved a $43 million Government loan guarantee. They remain barely in business, still struggling to make energy that makes sense or that works at all.
Ecotality: FAIL!- ECOtality, a San Francisco green-tech company that never earned any money and remains on the verge of bankruptcy after receiving roughly $115 million in two loan guarantees from President Obama, who wants to do some more of this kind of Democrat Slush Fund Guarantees after he is elected to a 2nd term.
A123 Solar: FAIL!- A123 Solar received $279 million from taxpayers thanks to President Obama’s Department of Energy loan guarantees even after the Solyndra bankruptcy and is getting another $500M from Obama after a loss of $400M.
UniSolar: FAIL!- Uni-Solar filed for Ch 11 bankruptcy in June 20, 2012 after laying off hundreds of workers. UniSolar received even more Obama money after showing now progress, no profits and is still failing… yet they still remain in business with Obama’s help.
Azure Dynamics: FAIL!- Azure Dynamics filed for bankruptcy in June , 2012 wasting millions in Obama “Stimulus” money and received abatement on taxes owed and and several tax credits. Azure Dynamics LLC filed for bankruptcy protection in Canada and the US. Azure laid off 120 of its 160 employees in Oak Park; Boston; Vancouver, British Columbia; and the UK.
Evergreen Solar: FAIL!- Evergreen Solar received $527 Million in Taxpayer money from Obama and filed bankruptcy in late 2011. Evergreen, which closed its taxpayer-supported Devens factory in March, 2011 cut more than 1800 jobs. Evergreen’s $450 million factory, turned out to be a colossal “waste” of taxpayer money.
Ener1: FAIL! Ener1 Inc. received a $118 million U.S. Energy Department grant from President Obama to make electric-car batteries but filed for bankruptcy protection January 2012 after defaulting on bond debt.

I did not want to cut and paste but Topix was not taking the links,

just do a search on failed green energy companies or Spain's failed green energy and see all the results you will get.

I see more lies by C.A.R.E.
A flyer warns of 2 mile long trains for Co-gent
Wrong, a train 2 miles in length could be possible but not something a rail road would do.
the physics of a train that long would be difficult of operate safely.

Once again, the CARE group's campaign of misinformation and outright lies has failed to prevent new development on the former Texaco Refinery site.
Our new mayor and city council (except for the remaining slimy two) have voted in the best interests of Lockport to allow this new development to proceed. They didn't buy into any of the BS coming from the CARE ladies and won't be doing so in the future.

Dear C.A.R.E. members
I hope the Asphalt roofing shingles that a very likely on the roofs of your houses are helping keep you dry and warm. Yes, roofing shingles made from the very oil you hate so much. maybe when the time comes to replace the roof you can cover your roof in used Yoga mats to help save the planet.
