I smell a merger in a few years.

Merger would be pointless, and needlessly expensive. Walgreens had a PBM, and sold it off. As for the brick-and-mortar part of CVS/Caremark, they share too much territory as it is. With the upcoming Amerisource/Boots buyouts, WAG will have a major cost advantage over its competitors.

I don't think WAG would ever merge. They sold their PBM to put more focus on their in store services and company wide offerings. Notice that CVS couldn't care less about their stores. Their PBM is their baby. It's the opposite for WAG. WAG sees local, convenient stores offering expanded healthcare and daily living products as the important thing.
