Navistar extends engine deal with Cummins
Navistar International Corp. confirmed Monday that it has extended for three years a supply agreement under which diesel engine maker Cummins Inc. will provide engines for use in Navistar's big 'Class 8' on-highway trucks through 2013.
Cummins has been one of two providers of such big diesels to Warrenville-based Navistar. But Caterpillar Inc., the other provider of engines for Class 8 trucks, announced last week that it is ending its role as a provider of on-highway truck engines.
Last year, a Navistar official said, Cummins supplied about 75 percent of the 'big-bore' engines Navistar installed in its big Class 8 trucks, and Caterpillar provided about 25 percent.
