I have a 2007 isx cummins for a few months now and I already spent over $12.000.00 in repairs. It is losing power and shaking. Changed turbo several times, egr valve, actuator, ecm, exhaust gas pressure sensor.... I appreciate any advice anybody can give because the mechanics are out of ideas and they keep replacing the same things.

I drive a 2010 Prostar with late 2008 ISX 450. It's a company truck that is leased
from Yellow Banana. Had a similar problem of engine getting lazy. With slow
throttle response. Would sound like it was sneezing in the intake manifold.
Won't bother you with the details that I went through with Cummins in Calgary,
except to say it was a total waist of my time, but when I was in Dartmouth N.S.
I developed an unrelated fuel leak at the fuel solenoid. I took it to Cummins there.
I mentioned to the young fella, about the totally annoying problem I was having,
and he said I now what's causing that! I was skeptical, but he removed the two
small pipes on the top of the air intake manifold. They are behind the air cleaner
housing. They go into a oval shaped device with a gasket. He said they would be
plugged with soot. Well guess what? The thing ran like a charm after that!
Then I remembered another driver telling me the exact same thing, and he carries
spare pipes, so he can switch them out.
That was last spring. Now the truck is using collant.( not related to first problem)
Turned the truck in four times now to be fixed. Got a rotten banana to drive each
time. The head was replaced a year ago, but I have a feeling it's EGR related.
Have been running with the expansion tank cap loose, or it will guzzle the thing
empty in about 50 kilometers! When it's loose, I can get by on 2ltrs a day.
I was an owner operator for close to 35 years. This is my first company job since
I was young. With the downtime I have experienced with this truck, and it's APU.
I don't know how an O/O could survive like this. International part of this truck
has been no trouble, wich has been a pleasant surprise, as I only owned KW
cab overs. All I can say is I'm glad Bananas come in bunches, cause you never
know when and where your going to need one with this Cummins, and I know
for a fact IH Maxforce isn't any better. At least with the Cummins, they don't have
to remove the interior of the cab to replace the EGR cooler.
I hear horses are making a come back! Anybody else hear that?

So glad I found this forum! We have a 2010 387 Pete with a Cummins ISX and have been having EGR/engine issues. We are on our 4th set of cams and 2 overhauls. Of course Cummins is not willing to help. One set of cams ( the first) shell got involved and they found from test in England that they were damaged from antifreeze in the engine. But they won't share the results because they were going after cummins. I have a lawyer who will do a class action suit if we can get more info from more oweners or companies! Please e-mail me at [email protected] if you have had problems and are tired of the issues. Right now our truck is in the shop, we are waiting to see if our ERG or head is bad again after only 4 months and less than 100,000 miles. LETS DO THIS ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! THANKS

anything post 2007 have notorious dpf plugging issues. ( soot and ash ) cummins has a proprietary process for cleaning the dpf that is expensive and ineffective. try removing then cleaning with alternating cycles of hot water and compressed air until water runs clear then after reinstalling make sure to warm up at least 30 min before running a regen. then clear your faults. also vgt actuator stuck will cause egr valve malfunction.

Ok we are done with Cummins's Department and will be hiring a lawyer! Any one have any recommendations? Or if you want to join in we may start a class action suit, we have an interested attorney but he needs more people to get involved. So please contact me if you are interested in joining the fight for Cummins to take care of the issues we have all had!

Take a look at your delta p sensor ( diff pressure ) this makes a huge impact on soot level from plug n oil filters to boost pressure

Hey folks,

I have a 07 int'l 9400i with a isx 475. Have aprox 381,000 miles. I've been experiencing poor mpgs and getting odd fault codes. Sometimes 15-20 codes and then 128 fault codes...????? I knew that this was egr related and I was waiting till it was a real problem before taking action. I noticed soot on the block and decided that was enough.

After doing a LOT of research, I decided to go to Hiller tuning in Ayr, ON (same shop was mentioned in an earlier post. They've done over 30 trucks for the company that I work for). It took one day and cost $4400 (that's with taxes) to delete the egr system. The service consists of retuning the ECM (now running 525hp and approx 2100 lbs of torque..tuning is actually done by Diesel Products Inc via an online connection) they then block the egr exhaust pipe and cooler and then disconnect the egr valve and reconnect it with a clip that makes it look connected but its actually not and a top set. I wasn't looking for more power but more mpgs. Dave Hiller explained that this will improve mpgs and the engine will not work as hard to pull loads. This tuning is strictly for fuel economy.

Within a minute of getting on my way I noticed that the engine was purring like a kitten..it's like the engine was happy..lol oil is 15-20 degrees cooler, exhaust temp is nothing and coolant temp is approx 15 degrees cooler. I definitely feel the power gains..big time. I have an eaton 18spd auto shift and it shifts so much better and holds top gears longer without downshifting AND NO ENGINE CODES!!!!!

Now the big question..mpgs..I'm now getting 8.5 mpgs pulling a van trailer with a 15,000lbs load. 2 more mpgs prior to the delete. That's huge. At that rate, the service will pay itself off in no time flat just in fuel savings. Never mind the costs for repairing the egr in the first place.

So far, it's been wellworth the price of the service big time. You can just unplug the egr on a cold engine but for the long run this is the proper way.

Sorry for the long post.

Can you please tell me if is there anyway the DOT can find out on this? I'm having the same issue and I'm going broke. Have sent over 6K already in DPF/EGR relative issues. I had an ISX before and love the engine. But this EGR/DPF thing is killing me.
Thanks.

The latest on our Cummins is the cam and block are shot, 82,000 miles after the last rebuild. Cumming still wouldn't pay for it all. Lawyer is working on case. Has been down going on 3 months. Will let you know what happens!

The PDI delete kit is worth doing. Our fleet has an 05 and 07 i deleted everything.on. PDI turbo. No egr New manifold and New coolant manifold. Plus computer. We hall heavy 35 metric payload and still average 5.5-6.2 depending on season and temp.

I see in your quote you indicate clear your faults. What do we need to clear the faults? Do we need a scan tool or how can we delete. Also if we need tools where can we get them.

We are interested in your lawsuit. We have a volvo 2008 cummins isx. We have had the truck for a year and replaced the EGR valve a month after it was purchased. Then about 10 months later it went out again and it was replaced. Now we are having for other issues the truck's check engine light came on and the truck loses power (no throttle Fault codes MID128, PID131, and FMI2 (data erratic). After the truck sits for about 3-5 mins it will run again. Took to the Volvo dealer and they said we had a bad wire harness. We got it back on the road and not too long it was happening again same symptoms same fault codes. We took it to another Volvo dealer they said it was some pins that were bent on the cable of the turbo actuator. They said problem was solved. Back on the road again same problem with the same fault codes. Very frustrated! I who a monthly payment which I am now behind on and have not been able to stay on the road long enough to make money and my account is wiped clean! Called Cummins and of course they were of no help because the truck is out of warranty. Please contact me [email protected]
