Customers getting burned by slow Internet speeds
We live in a high-speed age, but a Problem Solvers investigation found Internet providers, on average, are failing to give customers the speed they're paying for.

I can't believe this 2 sentence post is actually labeled an article. My comment is actually more robust than this.
Slow internet speeds also apply to cell phone internet providers. Most places I don't even get service.

This happens in places where the state attorney generals don't give a damn about consumer rights and should be voted out.
The company than wipes their butt with the consumer as no fear of being fined, etc for not providing the service you are paying for.

take into account several things. the wiring in your home/trailer/apartment, if on a router, whether its locked down, the number of devices attached to it, the nearest city your trying to hit etc. many variables there. also the computer youre using etc. satellite is laggy, so is dsl, hell so is cable. there are MANY variables.

I have Windstream, pay for 6Mbps and have been an IT consultant for 31 years in communications. On a good day I get 2.8Mbps but on a bad day around 1Mbps. Whats funny is that speedtest shows I upload at 160Mbps! Of course this is DSL, not cable so basically it's my private line.
I call every 2 or 3 days and complin. They had a big 2 month project to fix a problem that had known as DSLAM. It's basically more equipment for the little local Windstream buildings and more, larger equipment for the Central office.
It has helped but still, I get lousy speeds a lot of times. They finally gave me a whopping $10 a month credit on my bill which has not shown up yet.
Guess I'll call and bug them tomorrow. It's pretty bad when you have to watch CNN fill up the page like the old days with slow modems.

I've been using Dial-up since February 2002 and i have never used any other service except AOL and i am happy. You can't miss what you never had. If someone calls me they will hear a busy signal. If they complain to me they never can get me i tell them to send me an instant message. Phooey on them.
