Yesterday I went to Sam's Club with my friend, we want to get 42" plasme TV. But it cost more Costco. So got one from Costco, plus filled up the gas at Costco. Sam's Club, is a riff off Wal-mart

My husband was hired by Costco 3 years ago. He is a former Co-GM from Sam's club. It took him almost 1 year to get an interview and then another to get hired. Let me tell you, it was worth all the hard work. We had to work together to make it happen, but it worked. First, we updated his resume, highlighting all of his experience. Then we located a Vice president and got to know his assistant. Once we had repeatedly "badgered" this poor chap, we got the names of the other VP's and emailed them my husband's resume. Within a day, he was called and within a week was offered a position. It involved us relocating, but again, it was worth it. I can't get into pay scales, because I don't know it well enough, but I will say this, it is above average. Good luck and be persistent. Sam's Club/Walmart can't compete in integrity or anything else for that matter.

you rite bluedog, they are much better than Sam's I have a relative working for Sam/Walmart, and the pay is terrible, and benefits forget it. No such thing about the employees rights! They all about themselves and getting richer and richer. Almost 4 years he has worked there he only makes 7.00 and he is one of the luckiest one. Can you imagen. I have a friend of mine that works at Cotsco here in Wilmington, DE (Christiana Mall) location and they starting pay is like the one of 4 years ago my nephew had. But yes they are much cleaner, politeness is the best thing i find on costco and the competitive prices, I rather paid 80.00 for the membership and not have to deal with the people who works for Sams/Walmart. Who by the way outsources must of their jobs.
Go Costco big fan of them....

I was a Sam's club member until Costco moved into the area about 1 1/2 years ago. After shopping at Costco and comparing with Sam's Club, I did not renew my Sam's membership. Locally Costco is a cleaner store, very helpful personnel (and you can actually find someone to help you), better store lighting, aisles not cluttered, good selection, good inventory, better parking and I could go on and on. The only thing I miss at Costco is a good car wash which Sam's had. Gas pumps at Costco are much easier to get to. Oh yes, Costco charges about $20 more/year membership but mail out many, many discount coupons. One final comment, absolutely no hassle on returns/exchanges/refunds.

Return your tires and buy them at the ajax Costco store they are certified from michelin and have more knowledge about tires then Sams
Eric ajax canada wrote:
After my experience this past week with sam's club there is no way they will ever compare with cosco. I am both a sam's club and cosco member. I purchased new tires from sam's this past week (because they had the best price). Little did I know they sold and installed the tires while their tire balancing machines were all not working. After four return trips and not being able to drive my car above 80km for alost a week they are still not fixed. I am sure I would never have had this problem at cosco. Any time I have returned or had a problem with a product cosco has always made sure I have been satisfied the first time. Needles to say I will only be renewing one membership and it wil NOT be my sam's club one.

they mostly promote from within, i work at the louisville costco and you would have better luck putting in for an hourly or supervisor because it is in RARE occasion that I have seen outside applicants interviewed for management positions.

Samsclub is at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to competing with Costco. Samsclub treat their employees like shit and use fear and intimation towards their employees. I would never encourage anyone who wants to have a career to work for such a morally-bankrupt company. This company stands for nothing. No family values. All that matters to them is GREEN. The more you lie the higher you go up the ladder. There is no leadership in this company. That's why it is difficult to retain great talents. I hope costco continues to kick their butt. These people stand for nothing. They are abusers and pathological liars. They can see abuses going on and they will close their eyes for the sake of the green.

ISAMS SUCKS. THEY TREAT THEIR MANAGERS LIKE DIRT. I WOULD NEVER ENCOURAGE ANYONE TO WORK AT SAMSCLUB. SAMSCLUB USES THREAS AND INTIMIDATION TOWARDS THEIR EMPLOYEES. THERE IS NO QUESTION THAT COSTCO IS WAY BETTER THAT SAMSCLUB.

The value of items are much better than Sams Club. Sams clubs sell substandard products. Does Sams Club sell products like Calvin Klein Or Kitchen Aid? I hope they never merge. I heard that they were planing something. Costco brings things that we can't get somewhere in the states unless we shop there. I'm talking about imported foods and other things that aren't on the shelves of your everyday market. I will always shop Costco. the store has always treated my family and others well so i hope people won't compare it to other stores like Sams Club.

Well, now it has been two years after this silly post. None of it came true. If you had just said this in a locker room, the dudes would just laugh at you at that would be the end of that. But you decided to post it on the internet, where you basically got flamed. And then Time spanked you too

Around the next two to four years, Sam's Club will be quickly expanded and have more than 1,000 Sam's Club stores nationwide. These stores, formerly the locations of all 365 Costco stores nationwide, will have the following features:
* A full-line "big-box grocery" department
* A full-line "big-box merchandise" department
* A pharmacy with a drive-thru lane
* A snack bar
* A tire and oil change shop
* An optical center
Around next year, Wal-Mart Stores will no longer build any 150,000 square-feet Costco stores, but will now only build 150,000 square-feet Sam's Clubs instead. Around the next four years, Costco will no longer be in operation.
You are joking, right? Sam's Club is the ghetto version of Costco.

Notice how Derek, who made this uneducated first post, has never posted again or offered anything to back up his statement. Is he a fool or just pulling everyone's leg? I think the fool as he couldn't really believe anyone would take him seriously if he was indeed pulling everyone's leg.

I have worked for costco over 18 years, Derek is absolutely clueless!!!!!!!!Costco will never ever be a Sams club....while it's true walmart is a gigantously huge retailer with no heart for it's employees it does offer the best overall day in/out value, BUT AT A PRICE. It is a cutthroat environment. I also believe that costco has been tightening the reigns on it's management, it is all about the bottom dollar to the shareholder and individual warehouse managers yearly bonus'
WHILE I LOVE MY JOB, UPPER MANAGEMENT SETS UNREASONABLE GOALS AND EXPECTATIONS. THIS IS OF COURSE DEPENDENT ON THE INDIVIDUAL WHSE. MGR. WHICH ARE HIGHLY COMPENSATED FOR.

That Sam's club use a lot of pressure on their employees to sell the upgrade of membership other ways they get fired,using fear to scare them to lose their job if don't sell it. it is just ridiculous, this not company to work for, no values, no appreciation, human being there is nothing. I know that by experience.

Actually I work at the Louisville Costco as well and it is in the handbook that we do not hire outside managers. They HAVE to be promoted within.

Many people comment on how they would love to work for Costco because they start out with $10.00 per hour, offer benefits, etc. BUT you have to consider do you REALLY want to spend your life stocking shelves and asking strangers if they would like to sample your breaded salmon?
Working at at Costco is just like going to a PRISON CAMP each day.
I had a friend who worked for Costco right out of high school. She worked there for about 2 years and I was told how they do things... It was not a pretty story as so many people believe.
First, It is nearly impossible to be hired at Costco unless you happen to fit into the very specific type of person they are looking to hire. By this I mean, Costco ONLY HIRES those who have NO COLLEGE EDUCATION, Very little ambition to achieve anything in life, you have to be very "Humble" in that you don't seem like a mover or shaker in life. You have to be willing to perform very mundane task such as bagging groceries, ringing up customers and stocking shelves all day and be HAPPY DOING THAT. If you seem like you are AMBITIOUS you will NOT be hired. If you have any type of advance education or real skills YOU WILL NOT BE HIRED because you are OVERQUALIFIED for Costco. You must be the type of person who DOES NOT THINK FOR THEMSELVES this means if you found a $100 bill in the parking lot they would expect you to bring this $100 bill inside and give it to your manager rather than put it in your pocket and keep it.
Second, as an employee of Costco you are expected to act, think and breath the Costco culture each and every day. This means you can be FIRED for even the slightest indiscretion or rude comment to ANYONE, co-workers, customers, etc. If you were to make any type of joke or comment that even SLIGHTLY offends someone you are going to be written up and potentially fired at any moment. Costco is 100% DEAD SERIOUS about everyone acting like ROBOTS each day they come to work. There is absolutely ZERO TOLERANCE for any type of personality or fun at work.
The reality is Costco is a HORRIBLE work environment. Waiting tables at almost any restaurant would net you MUCH MORE MONEY and at least you could have some fun while you work instead of feeling like your going to a PRISON CAMP each day.

costco pays well i agree to that! But the store 321 where i am from is horrible! We are located in yonkers ny and we are a very high volume store> we are treated like we work in a sweat shop everyone is always under so much pressure and being a cashier is no easy job. Our breaks are not given in a timely manner all because they are trying to impress the warehouse manager! Promotions are given to who is liked and not who deserves it. Something has to be done. Being passed over to someone who is like more than who can do a better job is depressing then when comfronting management they say decision made and will not be changed. The schedule is also horrible mgr makes it to her liking not by seniority or her employees needs but by who she favors same thing with the most recent front end supervisor position clearly favoritism
