LUKoil, ConocoPhillips bring North Russia oil field on stream

There are 10 comments on the en.rian.ru story from Aug 28, 2008, titled LUKoil, ConocoPhillips bring North Russia oil field on stream. In it, en.rian.ru reports that:

LUKoil and U.S. energy giant ConocoPhillips have put into operation an oil deposit in northern Russia, the country's leading crude producer said Thursday.

The Yuzhno-Khylchuyuskoye field has 500 million barrels in proven reserves with production expected to reach a projected 7.5 million tons (150,000 bbl/d) in 2009.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by LUKoil President Vagit Alekperov and ConocoPhillips CEO Jim Mulva.

LUKoil has a 70% stake in the project.

One could also say that Russia is exploiting US know how to help revitalize fledgling oil production in Russia, and Russia is violating basics business principles.

A lot of these deals that are now falling apart started 10+ years ago. It's highly unlikely Russia will see anymore strategic investment from US or Europe anytime soon.

Well Shell had an "agreement" with Russia too for production sharing. And they tried to stick another 11 billion onto the bill, this isn't an open ended contract before you pay back.

Well ten+ years ago, the west shouldnt' have come to Russia who was having problems like a bunch of carpetbaggers trying to cheat Russia out of its natural resources and trying to broker deals which were outrageously unfair to Russians. Russia is making sure that foreigners do not steal their natural resources. Good for them.
