do trees and shrubs stop toxic and nuclear waste if an unforesen derailment? That is what effected communities should be planning for...a worst case scenario.

If, after living next to an active rail line that ALSO carried HazMat all these years, your elected officials don't already have these plans in place, then they are even more incompetent and reprehensible than even I thought.

Yes, there are substantial quantities of hazardous materials passing through Mokena every day on freight trains, but most of these materials are on the Iowa Interstate trains that use the Metra Rock Island tracks, not on the CN trains that use the EJ&E tracks.

What do shrubs do? They do not keep the train on the track, they do not absorb chemicals, they do not grow to 15 feet high to hide the train, they do not block noise. How bout making the railroad do something worthwhile?
