Sure they could have let her slide for a penny, but then they'd have to let others slide for a penny, then two cents, three cents . . . first one person, then two, three, and so on. Where does one draw the line when everyone else would have to cover the cost for those who did not pay. I applaude them for standing up for their principles.

God help us, over a lousy penny. Don't they get enough money from all the gouging?

You're desperate. We're talking about a penny here, not dollars. God, you'd be like Ceasar or Nero.

A penny here, a penny there, millions of customers ... where do you draw the line <only at a penny?, what about a dollar? where does it stop>

A penny, NOT a dollar. God will be that compassionate when you want to get into Heaven. He'll say Mr. Patriot, did you do any sinning down there on earth? You'll say "Why yes Lord, I did". He'll say, "Well you know Mr. Patriot, only the ones that don't do any sinning can enter in". Mr. Patriot will say, "But Lord, I only did a LITTLE sinning, I have tried to follow the 10 Commandments the best I can." The Lord will say to you Mr. Patriot, "A little sin here, a little sin there, where does it end?". The Lord won't say to everyone, of course, just people like you, who think they have the royal place in life to judge everybody and everything. The Lord will be reciprocal in his mentality for you. The Lord ALWAYS brings about justice, even for those that never see it coming!

You know, it is easy for us all to sit in our glass houses and judge others on why we only hear and/or read. Now, try putting yourselve in her shoes. Yes, I am sure the only way her bill was so high is because she was a few months behind, BUT do you or I know what her life has been like for the past two months. We all need to be a bit more kind and try to help each other out. Once again, all this over a penny -- well I'll give you a dang penny. Hope you all have a wonderful week and be NICE!!

Judging yourself to be right in thinking a penny is okay ... is MORE OF A JUDGEMENT call than accepting a Public Utilities right to be paid for services rendered. People quick to bend the rules often are quick to judge those who don't. <something to think about>

You sir are an idiot. It's one penny! Don't give us that WHERE DO THEY DRAW THE LINE crap. I hope you are short a penny someday and you can't have whatever because of it. I'll bet you would throw a hissy and yell IT'S JUST ONE PENNY. What if that was your mother?

Yes, God is an exacting God. I can respect that. I can respect an exacting Utility company, too.

This didn't have anything to do with compassion. She intentionally refused to pay the penny and could have paid it at any time. Especially after she got OTHERS to pay HER bill.

Glad you are talking with God and got authorization to judge the souls of others.

You would think the power company could have forwarded her outstanding balance to her next bill.

The minute they send a notice advising her of her $0.01 balance, they lose at least $.030 bulk postage.

It sounds like she has the money but chose to spend it on other things and got behind in her payments.
If the banks kept a penny for everytime someone closed an account, who here wouldn't be complaining?
