I was just wondering if there is any new news out there about this plant? I ve been laid off for a month now just wondering if anything new has come up there or if they are going to for sure close the plant down.

The Guelph plant is not closing.......Aside from the abundance of managers that have made there way from all the cloded C&A plants nothing new that we are hearing. Aperently Mayco has signed a letter of intent but no one is really saying much.

Thank you very much. What about the employees that are laid off right now, is there any word that they will be called back anytime soon? My number is in the high 500s, 598 to be exact.

I was employed in Guelph and terminated along with 6 others on Oct. 31/07. The kicker is that we were terminated with no notice or severence pay. Labour Standards Act says this is illegal, despite the companies claim that due to bankruptcy they can do this! So everyone (unionized or not, beware they seem to think that they can treat people this way!)

Keep in mind that the management has said alot of things that are against the law. This is the problem having uneducated people working in position that effect everyone. They dont realize that they are legally responsible to provide factual information to there employees. Maybe they need to spend more time learning Canadian labour laws and not sucking down pints a shakespear arms are in Robert phillips garage. I suggest you start a petition and get legal representation besides what the union will provide name the people thatare provide these false statements.
As for guelph staying open, I would suggest you start looking for a job. DO YOU SEE ANY FUTURE CONTRACTS BEING WORKED ON OR ANY NEW CUSTOMERS IN THE PLANT.
Start fighting back, you pay union dues to a union that has done nothing for you. GOOD LUCK

Thank-you, you are right on the mark. Unfortunately we were all salaried & therefore not represented by the union.

So then get a lawyer and go after them, there has been alot of illegal activity performed by upper management at Collins & Aikman CANADA during the bankruptcy. If they think BBK will protect them they live in a dream world, they need to realize that if they make false statements they will be held personnally responsable. My thought go out to you and the other 6 people, I bet your not from Stratford.

You're right I am not from Stratford. I will go after what is rightfully mine. It is a real shame that if you try to do a good job, have some pride and don't suck up to certain individuals in that facility you get treated so poorly. Nice guys always finish last in place like that one. But you know what? What goes around, comes around.

Did you receive any severence pay

We received no severance or lieu pay (and no benefites as of Nov. 1, 2007) and from what I have learned from Ernst & Young is the since C+A Canada didn't actually file bankrupcy in July(they filed CCAA- which is Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act) there is no file for us to claim against. So basically we were royally screwed.

What about the ministry of labour or employee standard act. They can't just not pay

Windsor is down, we lost that contract. chrysler has cancelled the midnight shift, laying off alsmost 200 people ( or More ) it's just a matter of time. This will leave about 350 people in the plant.
Severence is the main thing that people need to focus on.

This whole thing has been so hard on everyone. It's going to take time but it will sort itself out for all of us.For every door that closes a new one opens.

I was on salary in guelph and was let go oct 31. I was told that the salary will not get any severance but the union employees have to be paid all their severance money. We are people too. Why should I have to hire a lawyer and the company pay the union?

Use the labour board, find the facts. let them go after C&A, C&A is expecting you to do nothing. just think you the satisfaction you will have when David Edwards is standing infront of a judge explaining his actions as the canadian region HR manager. Judges love people like him, try screw the working man by making threats and false statements. I hope he is saving his money because he is personnaly responsible for his action ( don't even get me started on his safety record. The ministry will go up his ass with a microscope.
