"Former El Dorado Grower", it does make one wonder if Pilgrim's Pride and Foster Farms is one and the same. It's not that they are one and the same, it's that all the major poultry integrators basically operate in the same manner. And you must keep in mind, the upper management of these large poultry corporations are a close knit group. Just take a look at the present CEO of Pilgrim's Pride, Don Jackson. Don was the CEO of the poultry division of ConAgra until Bo Pilgrim went on his rampage to become the #1 poultry producer in North America and bought out the poultry division of ConAgra. That is when Don Jackson went to Foster Farms as their CEO. After Bo Pilgrim fired Clint Rivers, former CEO of Pilgrim's Pride, Don was hired as the CEO of Pilgrim's Pride. Believe me when I say, Don Jackson knows the people that are running Foster Farms very, very well. And you must remember the former Broiler Production Manager at the El Dorado complex, Tony Crawford, is now running the broiler division in Farmerville for Foster Farms. YEA, these people know each other well and these large poultry integrators operate in the same manner. When I first became involved in the poultry business, the tournament pay system and the so-called "incentive" pay" did not exist. When one major integrator seen how they could increase their profit margin by implementing this unfair and unjust system of paying growers and get away with it, all the other major integrators were soon to follow. It reminds me of years gone by when crime syndicates acted in collusion with each other staking out their territory that were not to be intruded. This is true today in the poultry business. The major integrators have staked out their territories and they try and not invade each others area. They are simply trying and are succeding in forming small monoplies in which they can operate without any competition leaving growers at the complete mercy of these ruthless corporations. I will never forget what an upper management person told me personally. And this is a direct quote, "we can make you or break you". I know some of the growers are suffering financially, but I am hoping they can hold out and take Pilgrim's Pride all the way to court. I would just love to see Bo Pilgrim on the witness stand trying to justify his actions.

I have now posted twice, about the situation between pilgrims pride, and their abuse of their growers, and neither of the posts are here. The poultry industry has been totally taking advantage of the poultry farmers for years, exploiting them, using terrior tactics to scare farmers into submission, and causing them to go farther into debt, never allowing them the chance to pay out. A paid out farmer is a farmer that the industry cannot control, threaten, or manupulate.
The El Dorado Poultry farmers are the last chance for the farmers, nation wide to ever break the yoke of their oppressors. I will add more to this later, if this post gets put thru. Makes me wonder why my previous posts have dissapeared.

A young man named Jonathan Shepard, put together a documentary titled "The Sharecroppers". Jonathan became aware of the abuses that the farmers suffered at the hands of the poultry integrators, and set out to find the "truth" about the industry. He traveled thru out this nation, but found that the farmers who has chickens were too afraid to talk, especially on camera, for fear of being blackballed by the integrator for which they raised chickens. Many ran him off of their farms, fearing that the company would even see them talking to him.
After some time, Jonathan finally made it to Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Here he found people who could no longer be intimidated by the integrators, who were willing to talk. Many of these same farmers had refused to speak to "outsiders" in the past, out of the same fear, that Jonathan had found across this nation.
Now there is a documentary detailing some of the abuses of the poultry integrators. This documentary speaks primarily of Pilgrism Pride, but it is indicitive of the entire poultry industry.
We the El Dorado farmers feel the pain of each and every poultry grower out there. Pilgrims Pride must be held accountable for what they have done. We have seen their internal documents, we know that what happened to us was birthed in pure greed. Their Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3 plans to manupulate the price of market chickens, must not be overlooked or swept under the ruggs. We are standing firm for now, but we are under attack by a corporate ag giant, who seeks to break us any way that they can. If we loose, the poultry farmers across america, loose.

By the way, Bo Pilgrim recieved a multi-million dollar, "consulting fee". He has been retained for several years, as a consultant, so he is very much still in the "game". One of his Sons, also recieved a multi-million dollar "consulting fee", as well as did Don Jackson, whose arrogance I have never seen before in many human beings. To watch him, and listen to him during the bankruptsy hearings, was sickening. Pride cometh before fall, do not feel sorry for the Pilgrims, their pride is what caused all this to begin with. How many peoples lives have they destroyed, how many more peoples lives will they destroy.

Where can I see this documentary? What is the name of it? Did you ever see the book Plucked and Burned? Supposed to be fiction, but very good and to the point.

We saw the documentary for the first time in Dallas, when the El Dorado and Farmersville farmers were to meet in mediation with Pilgrims Pride, which by the way turned out to be nothing more than another kick in the teeth by Pilgrims, to the growers, adding insult on top of insult, and hurt on top of hurt. I contacted Jonathan Shepard, and he told me that we could duplicate all the copies of the DVD that we wanted, he just wants as many people as possible to see what the industry has and is doing to the poultry farmers. I have had my son to make copies for me, other farmers are making copies and getting the message out as they can. E-mail me your mailing information, and I will send you a copy. As you can imagine, that is not an easy feat, as Pilgrims Pride has destroyed us financially, and it does not look like that will change any time soon. We must get this message out, no matter the sacrifice. My e-mail is [email protected]
