Nice article in the Texarkana Gazette today about the poultry growers. Good article but I would like to see more about it. The growers need to get the story out to more people. I know that a lot of people just don't care about it, but they might if they knew what was going on. A good way is to watch the film "The Sharecropper". It is on U-tube. If more knew, it might put more pressure on the companies to change their way of dealing with growers. They have been putting fear into growers for so long, they need to learn a lesson. The growers need to get this settled so that they can go on with their lives.

Until this is settled, we in no way can begin to rebuild our lives. If it were settled right now, it would take nearly a decade to rebuild our credit, among other things, and that, timeframe, is wishful thinking on my part. Thank you Pilgrim Ex, for your post.

bankruptfarmer,

The problem with your time frame is that a lot of the ex growers is that they may not have that kind of time left. If you look at the ones effected in this mess, the biggest part of them are older. They are the ones who had helped make Pilgrim's a success for years and then Pilgrim's turned on them. It is the worst crime for these who live on farms that they have lived on for years to face losing the family home and farm. There needs to be more publicity about this. People need to know what is going on.

I realize that I didn't make myself, very clear. At this point it is probably too late for me. You see Pilgrims Pride set about destroying our businesses(farms) years before they delivered the final blow. I was told that this was going to happen by a manager at the El Dorado plant, some time before they implemented their scheme. Pilgrims Pride executives are much more devious, and decietful, than anyone really knows. The thing that they fail to realize is Gods law. What ever you dish out will come back to you ten fold, good, or bad, and this one is a whopper. Anyway, I doubt any chickens will ever be raised on our farm anymore. At this point it would cost me over $100,000.00 just to replace the equipment that has "gone bad" while setting idle. Our credit is now ruined, no banker in their right minds would ever loan money into the Poultry business, especially for Pilgrims Pride growers, and rightly so. Not because the farmers do not pay their bills, but because the industry is now, no longer trust worthy. Our farms have been devalued hundred of thousands of dollars, listed as salvage now, by the county accessor. I worked for three decades, to build up a farm, and a business, only to have it be reduced to nothing, at the whim of a soulless corporation. You may have heard that the government is working to give us some grant money to help in an emergency relief effort to lesson the hit that we have taken. Now Pilgrims Pride is saying that they want that amount of money to be figured out of the damages that they have done to us. Another words, if we recieve any money for disaster relief, they want any settlement on their part to be reduced by that amount, as if they paid it to us. Their greed and pompus attitude is off the charts. What will they ask of us next, to have any money that we earned from jobs that we got to try and survive, to be subtracted from any settlement that they are found to owe us. Mere mortal words cannot describe the depts of depravity that Pilgrims Prides Executives have and will stoop to. No, these farmers cannot hang on much longer, their farms are rapidly degenerating, buy being set idle. Houses that are idled, suffer many times over, houses that are in prodution. All of this has been visited upon the farmers, after years of abusive terrior tactics that the farmers were subjected to. There was not one single time in the last 15 years, that on each flock, we were not subjected to what can be described as economic blackmail. We never knew until we actually had chickens in out houses, if we were even going to truly get chickens. They would hold it over your heads to the last minute, then the cycle would start all over again, with threats all thru the flock sent via the service men. Many service techs quit, they could not bring themselves to stoop that low, but some seemed to relish in the power that they held over people. We called one Brioler manager Little Ceasar, he was extremely despised. His response to our displeasure with him, I'm doing a job, that they pay me to do. I don't worry about if its right or wrong, I just follow orders. He is still in this community, and still despised by all. People make choices, and they can choose not to serve evil upon others. Just how much money does it take for a person to stain their souls, with the misery of other people.
