Gosh not a word about O'Malleys relentless and dishonest promises to lower BGE rates while running for Guv. He shamelessly bashed Ehrlich on this issue, does nothing, his lies exposed, but he can depend on his mouthpieces at the Sun not to remind anybody about that.

It's kind of hard to convince the power companies to do that after its been proven that they can't trust the state to honor an agreement.

This is the first time I've received a rebate from a gas and electric company. What a nice surprise!

Erhlich & O'Malley deserve less political blame than Glendenning, Miller, & Taylor. Miller's still around & needs to be run out of office. The real villan is Mayo Shattuck III & his gang at Constellation who sold us deregulation, then proceded to rig the market.

Three points:

1) Shattuck wasn't at Constellation in 1999.
2) The fact that the General Assembly and Glendenning were too dumb to understand what they were getting into is not the fault of Constellation.
3) MOM did not cause the problem but he sured conned people into believing he would do something about it.

1. I stand corrected on Mayo's original role. My anger at his smug attitude towards consumers blinds me to reality sometimes.
2. The con-man (Constellation) is more guilty than the conned (Gov. & Legislature).
3. Six years of governors in thrall their patrons and contributors have left us poor voters wondering if anyone is on our side. An Erhlich
re-do in 2010 won't make anything better than O'Malley, we just get screwed from the back instead of the front.

Actually the voters are guilty of continuing to elect shmucks that are too stupid to sit across the table from business people.

Worse yet, those shmucks made matters worse when they imposed a rate cap that effectively discouraged competition from emerging. They then further discouraged competition by proving that they couldn't be trusted to honor and agreement.

You might thing that electricity costs are bad, but please compare current gas prices to 1993 prices and you will find that electricity hasn't risen nearly as much.

I got my credit and will have no bill for this month or next. Something is better than nothing. Think of it as money back for last rate hike and a savings for the next one to come.

And the credit was not based on what you paid. For those in townhouses and apartments who received the same payment as those with larger homes or running businesses and who previously paid the higher rates at a faster rate, they were screwed more than those who pay less all the time.

True! The forced deferral fee works the same way. It has nothing to do with how much you were forced to defer.

I am also disappointed that O'Malley didn't take this opportunity to buy all or part of Constellation Energy (or at least buy, reregulate, and then sell for a profit). At some point, he did contemplate buying BGE but said that the 10 billion dollar price tag was too high.

If the State of Maryland had bought BGE and its plants today for the price Buffett paid for them, you would be paying a lot less for electricity tomorrow, and the profits from the state-owned utility would be going towards balancing the state budget (or to the consumer/shareholders or BGE employees). That would be Socialism. The only people who would complain would be CEOs, the rich, and investors who live off the consumers and workers.
