i have a 2005 accert 435 in my freightliner. got a code for a intake valve actuator fault. took it to cat they said they adjusted it and down loaded new software to ecm. the truck ran like shit, backfires, no power and vibrates terribly. they said it was normal. BULLSHIT!!!! told them i had none of those problems before i took it in. then they wanted me to change all the injectors because they were bad when i dropped it off. what a bunch of bull. this accert is worse than the ISX. i use to love cats but now their motors ( the new ones ) suck terribly and their service is shit. after 5 days in the shop i get a call saying that the intake valve actuator is bad. that is what i took it in, in the first place for. called again this morning to see if it was done. they tell me they are still tyring to adjust it. what the hell. they say it is bad first , then screw up the motor major, tell me it is bad again and now they are trying to adjust a bad solendoid. anything to get away from warranty. CAT SUCKS ASS!!!!!!!!!!

This happened to me last year . What happens is that the vva's get dirty and all it needs is to take them apart and clean them really good in a clean solvant tank and blow them out with air . They go back together very carefully and there is no adjustment necessary . I had this problem of backfiring and was told it needed new housings. They tried to get me to pay but I refused as my truck ran fine until the mechanic put his hands on it . The housings are $900 each . There's 3 of them . I clean my vva's myself now that I'm out of warrenty . good luck , Grizz

I also just put the 100 ohm deal on my fuel temp sensor. This one you completley disconnect it from the housing . What a difference it made .

Cats are new to me, always had detroit and never an issue. I recently purchased an '04 truck with an '03 c-15 single turbo "bridge" engine.
Engine just fragged with 330k on it. Dropped a valve in #6. My mech says that the bridge engine is inherently good, but should have an earlier ecm and some other mods which basically make like an "old style" cat. Will run cooler, HP to 550 and so on.... What do the experts here think? I am just starting a rebuild so any info is appreciated. I am planning on removing the "cats". |

read all these posts, what is the main difference between the '05 and '07 acerts? Looking at a '05 KW with good price and low miles, is this acert engine the reason? I'm just hoping got out of it because of fuel prices. Also what are the wa's you clean, I know it will be a "duh" moment when you tell me, but i'm lost.

I just replaced my mufflers. What I did was put on some stock ones .If you look inside you will see how the crimped the screen together in 4 different places.I took a 2x4 and beat them open so that it would flow more air . What a difference.I paid $75 a piece. That fuel temp fix. Order one from platinum performance.com

Yea I did the muffler swap I went with a pair of dynaflexes and only paid $115 for both they bolted right up are already free flow (you can see straight through from one end to the other)that alone improved my MPGs and gave engine a much healthier sound anyhow thanks for tip. |

None of you people even understand the new acert technolgy ,The emissions isn't going anywhere soon,so sit back take a seat, its going to be a ride. the new caterpillar cgi & dpf capabilities are far more superior that the competitor. the c15 acert 08 engine has great power,& boost the twin turbo 45 psi boost are more superior than any other competitor's turbo.stick with cat,no one else.

i dont know why to purchase something of that price. if you can do it your self. if you have c15, but if you have three wires cut the orange wire and just leave it like that. strip bare spot on the black wire, cut the white wire, solder the white wire tower sensor to the black wire. then solder 150ohm resistor to another white wire and solder other end of resistor with the black and white you solder first. you can buy it in r, shack good luck

Hey Mike, At 10,000 miles my acert broke a rocker arm , and it broke the bottom studs on the inside turbo. At about 20,000 miles it broke another roker arm. After they replaced all the rocker arms and the camshaft it seemed to be ok. I,ve had some other problems with my VVA's . but now its working alot better. I have 224,000 miles on it .

It's brand new....156,000 mile....always serviced at 15,000 services....now the motor is blown with no warning at all...no lights, buzzers or anything. Got fired because they said it was my fault and my company had to pay 14,000 to get it fixed...really looking for some documentation that says they are having this problem so I can confront them about it being my fault.
