I have a 2005 C15. I had to replace turbos April 2009. I am now changing them again April 2011. The same thing happened this time as last. The top turbo fins started to break off in little pieces. The pieces then went down and pitted and damaged the bottom turbo. Do I have to go through this every two years at about 7000 dollars ?

Cat is not going to admit any problems since the liability is great. Paccar alone has 4000 engines in inventory and that is not taking into consideration all the trucks on the road today. Also since they are getting out of the on highway market there is no reason to protect the CAT brand. As you know their agreement with Navistart is to market the CAT technology under a different name and color. So there is no reason to fix this problem nor take care of the loss revenue due to downtime and employee loss. In the end even if they fix the issues we have equipment that has no resell value with the history our units will show. I am now having a website built to try and put everybody together to get a class action started. I will post the address when it is done.

i just got 2007 T2000 with CAT 475hp twin tubo and eaton 10spd drive on I-5. If I drive at 10th then speed goes 65(limit is 55)@ 1300rpm. If I drive @ 55 then rpm goes below 1200 so i have to drive at 9th to keep 1400 rpm and 55spd. Any suggestions Please...

Im an army mechanic. We have a few wreckers with the c15 twin turbo. No emissions junk due to being military but they are great! no problems and pull like a freight train. The 3406 engines in the lmtv vehicles are nothing but problems. In the last 4 months 6 engine replacements and constantly have them lined up with fuel problems. Stay away from that 3406 is my advice.

I HAVE HAD A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THE REGENERATION SYSTEM. RIGHT NOW, 5/4/11, THE TRUCK IS DOWN FOR UNAVAILABLE PART (ARD HEAD). HEAD HAS BEEN UPGRADED, NEW PART NUMBER, AND THE PART WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR AT LEAST A WEEK.! THE REMOVED ARD HEAD WAS AN UPGRADE DUE TO A PART FAILURE 18 MONTHS AGO...THIS IS ON A MOTOR THAT WAS IN THE CAT SHOP LESS THAN ONE MONTH AGO FOR AN UPGRADE ON EMISSION SENSORS. CAT WILL NOT TELL YOU ABOUT UPGRADES UNTIL AFTER A PART FAILS! MY SHIPPER HATES ME, AND I HATE MY CAT MOTOR.
ANYBODY GOT INFO ON A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, LET ME KNOW.

My 2007 379 has an Accert! I can say I "love" my motor ... 736,000 miles (bought it new!) I do use oil, but the seals in my turbo are worn & need to be replaced! I just put new injectors in on Saturday! This is one awesome truck! It took me a while to find the right shop to flash the right file into the ecm & to adjust the fuel settings! This 475 will out perform my old 3406E 600hp.
As for the horton fan clutch... gold top kit by kit-master...

i have a 05 c-15. It has had what is called the heavy haul number sequence in it with a fuel temp resistor, and the turbo waste gate dismanteled, allowing fuel on demand and a max of 68lbs of boost. out of 300,000 + miles of being set up this way i have experienced a lot of power and and a driving average of 5.7 mpg. over the last few months cant get more than 4.4, but have not lossed power. The only difference in work inviorment is i haul 1 way freight and come back empty. My certified cat guy has changed the rocker shafts a few injectors and thermostats, thats it. We have done a complete service with new air filters, pressure checked the air to air, done a fuel pressure test (88lbs at 1350 rpm) injector tests aswell as the overhead. No problems everything is in check even through the ECM printout. Can someone help us figure this out please
Have you pressure tested the turbos?

check out dieselfreak.com , around $200 get more power and helps fuel mileage, takes about 15 minutes to install.

<quoted text>the accert engine isn't as bad it just needs the right tuning to make them run! check out PDI Diesel out of St. George UT. or try bullydog ecm upgrade($2100-2800),exhaust manifold($1600), FASS fuel system($650), fuel& boost wires(ebay)!!! none is cheap but it'll put a smile on your face & money back in your pocket!!

dont bother with these fuel resistors that fool your ecm into pouring more fuel to engine to increase hp etc
go direct thru your ecm instead! i can flash the correct file for u to save fuel...trust me 7784755528

I have used Cats, Cummins and Detroit Diesels for many years, going back to the the original Cat 1673 and the 855 Cummins. GM/Detroit 53 and 71 series ,2 cycle diesels. These engines did the job in their day. They all had some problems and that led to the improved diesel engines we have today ..In my opinion the most reliable was the Cat 425 hp 3406 , which is now the c15 series. Also the new Cummins are reliable engines. I have never owned Detroit 4 cycle engines, but have read that they are reliable too. Now that some manufacturers are building their own engines and with Cat out of the highway truck engines, it leaves Detroit and Cummins to fight over what is left.
