Well i have a 2008, 389 c-15 "not very happy" 28 lbs boost 98% of the time, untill it regens tghen i get 42lbs. I owned it for 3 years and i figure with loss of loads, down time, im $30,000 short. nobody wants to help me any more cause , the way it seems, is my truck is a problem truck and blow it out the door fast! it has been 98% warranty but that is not the point. and nobody will fix it untill it actuly breaks. How can a guy get reimburst???

dont know the frequency ,but dealership can do cylinder cut-out test to see if you have one or more going bad.inexpensive test,if they charge you at all.

Check your turbo sencor it is on the driver side about 10 inches from front of motor it is about a inch and a half tall and has two wires that plugs in the top of it. Your boost sounds like it is good cat told me 40lbs was normail mine is only getting about 32lbs they can't figure out what the problem is I have spent $4000.00 on it so far.Turbo sencor is $120.00 I just put one on my truck.

More clarification on my problem. My C15 is 475 hp with a fuel temp resister. Wastegate hose pinched off.
Now my problem. When pulling hard up a hill my boost is fluctuating like i said in earlier post. Nothing is repeatable, sometimes I'll go all day with good boost and the next day it'll be low. When I had the truck in for the vva oilline update they also installed new software. That fixed a earlier problem I was having of not getting full power and boost until it was warmed COMPLETELY up (195). Problems fixed for a while. I was wondering if the software fixed my problem or the vva update? When I lose boost now it acts just like it did before the software update and or the vva update. Thinking about getting PDI to tune the computer for me. anyone have comments on them?

recently I had an oil change done at TA and left the old oil filter gasket on the new filter. Ofcourse as soon as I turned engine on he tells me to turn it off. I see all the oil leaking, takes filter off again and uses the same one. Well done the road my check engine light comes on, and I see oil leaking from oil filter. Went to peterbuilt dearler and got it replaced. Checked out the code 385-1intake valve actuater system low oil pressure. actuator test with e.t. passed, intake actuator solenoid test passed. they cleared code, i ran my truck about 5 miles loaded and my light is back on. blinks 1 pause than 1 pause 1

HEY, I HAVE NOTICED SOMETHING SIMILIAR. MY BOOST NORMALLY RUNS 30 TO 35 LBS. BUT - WHEN I ADD FUEL FROM ABOVE GROUND STORAGE TANK WHEN THE OUTSIDE AIR TEMP IS COLD (SAY 15 DEGREES F.) THE TRUCK PULLS BETTER AND THE BOOST IS 40 TO 45 LBS. WHEN THE ENGINE HAS WARMED THE FUEL, BOOST DROPS OFF.........WHAT THE HECK?

Too hot fuel isn't good, you might want to consider adding a simple fuel cooler, easy to do, just mount inline between outlet on the head and the fuel tank.

I haven't posted on this page in quite a while. Since then I have had some good luck with my 2004 C-15 Acert. I had the VVA's upgraded and they haven't broke since (8 months now). I have replaced all the studs on the exhaust manifold and turbos.fuel mileage is only 5.0 to 6.0 mpg. I run an end dump and flatbed. Neither cut through the wind very good to get better fuel mileage. It doesn't matter anyway, I set my own rates. As long as I keep my rpm's low at around 1200 to 1600 I think it will be ok.Everybody enjoy the holidays. Thank You , Grizzly
Hey Grizzly, I have had really good luck with my Acert. I have an '05 379 with and Acert rated at 475 hp. I bought the truck new. In in the CAT owner's manual that comes with the truck it tells you how to drive it in order to get the best fuel mileage. It says you get maximum torque between 1200 rpm and 1600 rpm. I drive it just like the book says and I have been getting 6 miles to the gallon. I think what helps out too is that I drive it 65 every where I go. I also use the cruise control religiously. I have been wanting to rerate the motor to a 550. Caterpillar, where I am from, wants $500 for the flash file and $250 to install. But recently I ran into a guy that would change the fuel settings in the ECM. Supposedly this guy is the son of the Deisel Doctor out of IL. I went ahead and paid him $100 to do and man I tell you this thing is now a BEAST. It pulls the hills really good. I just took it out on my first trip with the changes so I can't tell you what my fuel mileage is yet, but what a change as far as power goes. What do you know about changing fuel settings?
