just bought a used 06 pete with a 475 acert uner the hood i have always loved that damn yellow motor in the past but in the past two months this f^%*#ng cat has appearantly fallen in love with my mechanic cause that seems to be the only place the truck likes to be at. i have got to haul about 7 loads since the first of december when it was bought and we already have to put new turbos on this thing. yes cat makes a great motor but it is great for the shops bank account. so who is ballsy enough to tell me how great this turd is? crappy fuel mileage turbo falling off and best of all its all under warranty ... except for the things that need to be fixed. im thinking goodbye cat HELLO CUMMINS ISX

Let me know, I am buying another rig with a C15 or ISX. Don't know which way to go. C15 is about 400 lbs heavier. Need dependability and longevity. Have a Volvo 12 liter now. Great engine, good power, 7 mpg loaded, but no one ever has parts for it. Not even home state dealer. 90% of purchases are special order. Thinking of CAT or Cummins with the least problems.

I have a 2005 kwopper with a 550 c-15, recently I had 2 studs break that hold down the rocker ams and the jake plate. I replaced the 2 bolts/studs and put it back together and now my jake is weak. Works on all three stages normally but 3 sounds like 2 would normally sound. It recently flashed check engine so I held the cruise control toggle on resume and it flashed me code 92 which is Intake valve actuater 1 or 2 fault. I`ve readjusted everything best I knew how using common mechanical sense, it aint my first rodeo. Is there anything particuler about valve lash and actuater clearance or procedure that im missing? Or is there something in my jake plate/acuaters that maybe broke or damaged? Help me out if you can, thanks!
your acuaters that maybe broke or damaged?,had same problem, something wrong with them, you might as well change all the studs will save you down time and other acuaters trust me ,1 st we replaced the studs ,2 nd time other 1 broke and ruined acuater so we paid extra to change last set of studs

Chesty Puller your full of it. I own 6 trucks all are Cat 475 accert with mileage from 375k to my oldest with 730k. I have NEVER had any in the shop other than PM service. I have one of my trucks that lost power and was blowing grey smoke about 15k after the last PM. My driver replaced the fuel/water separator filter and all is well. It was the day after he used Power Service anti-gel in the fuel tanks. Maybe flushed some water out of the tanks? But 19 out of 20 jobs thru your shop are "blown up" cats? I'm calling Bull crap on that story.....Must be a Cummins rep..

I just sold my C-15, my friend called and said the head needs to be replaced because of blown actuator arm.; I had the 2006 fghtlnr governed at 66 mph for 2 years and he just had all govenor speed control removed. Question, did the actuator arm break because the governor was opened fully does the governing at 66 mph preserve the life of the cat?

we"ve got two trucks International with an ISX and a Freightliner with a Cat, both 05's both 475 hp. The Cummins walks ALL OVER the Cat, the Cat barely holds 105kmh with the throttle constantly wide open and boost of 30psi steady, terrible mileage too. the ISX is smooth, quiet and more or less idles down the highway at any speed.

is there anything a guy can do with these Cats aside from the Pittsburgh Power stuff? this thing is painful to drive!

I drive a 2008 western star with a c15 acert rated at 550hp here in Australia i a pull three trailer roadtrain and I have covered 100'000 kilometers in tempratures of up to 120 farenheit in this time the truck has never given me any problems and is using about 77 litres of diesel per 100 kilometers which is considered good for a 110 ton triple roadtrain the truck is serviced religiously every 15000 kilometers and while we have no seriously steep hills here in western Australia power and performance has never been an issue I personally rate this engine as good and reliable in my experience

The Cummins engine is most expensive for a reason, Detroit second most expensive for a reason. The Cat you can buy right now for a steal. If you want to try to get the responsiveness and power of a cummins without progressive shifting every 1100 rpms and still have fuel mileage; check out Pittsburgh Power. They do a nice fuel management mod for all engines, very impressive. Chris Young you are a moran.

got a c-15 accert motor in 2004 peterbilt. History on this thing would probably contain more pages than the shelf you see at libraries with the encyclopedia brittancia sitting on it. This f--king motor would make the owner of the caterpillar companies want to drive a truck with a volvo motor in it. really i dont hate cat motors but ive got six friends that would (and do) tell anybody inquiring about them to stay away. i am a big fan of the old 3406b model though. had a lot of fun with them
