Lots of people say they hate the Acert engines but i havent read a single post that actually states a good reason WHY they hate them!

If compared to other manufacturers i dare to say Cat has just as much problems with the newer generation of engines, or even less than others.

i understand the frustration, which is justified, of customers who struggle to get their equipment running. but before you go and tell the world Cat sucks ass etc you should have some facts why Cat engines suck more than others.

Ok, I have only read a few of these post on here and am kinda disapointed in people. Instead of whining about your motors, get the knowledge you need to get your motor running right. Cat said there was nothing to do to these motors to make them run better. WRONG! I have a 06' Pete flat top and pull a flatbed with a conestoga. Alot of wind drag. Started out as a 475. Had it turned up to a 600 heavy haul. Didnt do much as far ponies but jumped my MPG up 1.5. Ran for a bit like that then wanted more. Shimmed the fuel pump. WOW,talk about power. Very impressed with the outcome. just did it this week so still to early to get a good idea on MPG. I am a fathful Cat man and love my new motor.

Took out the plug on the side and dropped in a piece little under 1/4" under the spring.

Well I had the computer turned up to a 600. That was the first step. Then I pulled out the plug on the side of the pump. its at the front left side of the engine. Right under the power steering tank. It has a spring and a little pin in it. Cut a piece of steel or something that the spring will ride on top of. Cut about 1/4" or a bit smaller. Then thred it back in. Have to use a shallow well socket,it goes in kinda hard. What is does is opens the pump up more and gives you more fuel. I also have the fuel temp wire on mine also.

Carson , So you are saying that you are putting more tension on that spring . What size is the plug you are removing ?

Think it takes a 5/8 socket to remove it. Its is right under the oil fill tube on the front of the block.

This is not a good idea ! I did it and my fuel pressure went from 90psi to 150psi. I called a shop that I use and they don't recommend it.I went for a test ride and it didn't help anything.I put it back to stock.

If you had to ask a shop about it im not sure you should be messing with it anyway. It did make a differance on mine is all I an tell you. I have made a few adjustments to it to get it just right. Sorry it didnt work out for you.

I shimmed it again, but with a smaller one. This time I only raised it to 120psi . I'll keep like that for a while to see if it changes anything . The shop I use are a bunch of outlaws that will try anything to get more HP. Griz
