it's normal, you're at the early stages of break-in so the blowby should reduce after a couple hundred miles. also it is good to keep in mind to load the engine every once a while to keep those nasty carbon build ups away. if you run at very low loads all the time it will cause the cylinder walls to smoothen allmost to a glassy surface. you should start a new habit, choose a long steep uphill and climb it twice a week with all your trucks might , that should keep your new engine in good condition. and remember maintenance. good luck!

Dont buy one, 3126 is the biggest piece of crap ever bolted together. Excessive oil consumption, leaks, overpriced parts, and disposable to boot. I owned two of them, wouldnt take another as a gift. Look for something else, unless you like to work on trucks. I had one that from 50k on used a gallon of oil in 100 miles, no smoke, must be pushing oil in fuel system from cracked injector body or head. No way to test HUEI'S for oil loss that I know of. DONT BUY CAT CRAP, Dusty

The 3126 HEUI is a complex engine .....That is what’s wrong with it. It has several things that can fail that will leave you on the side of the road. Cat came out with this in 1995 with serial number 1WM. It was going to be a revolution in the diesel world. When this HEUI system came out in the medium duty engines it was going to be the system of the future but too many problems with the system. Now HEUI is out and common rail is in. If it was me I would buy one if the price is right. That is only because I can work on it myself. If you are not a Cat tech you may want to stay away from one of these.

i dont find the HEUI system particularly probematic. if you understand the principles of the system etc its really not that complex.

I have a 1999 pete 330 with a 3126 cat.It has an intermintent problem. I will loose power and the check engine light will start to blink about every 30 seconds. I t won't go over 1500 rpm in gear but if I push in the clutch it will rev to about 2500 rpm. Then it clear up just as fast as it came and the check engine light stops blinking. Any ideas. Thanks

something is causing you an engine derate. there are several thigs that may cause this: low oil pressure, low coolant level, high coolant temp, or low injection actuation pressure. anyway its probably something serious thats causing the problem.
i suggest you visit the local cat dealer.

I work in a corp fleet department every 3126 we have has giving us problems they has giving us job security. I need some info on the wiring and fuel systems. I have one that will start on either and run at 1000 R.P.M but goes dead at anything under stevie38751@yahoo.com

Invest in a good scanner .My guess would be that your injection control pressure is low or non-existent, the IAP valve is usually the culprit>If your fleet consists of 3126's than you should always keep a few IAP valves on the shelf{extremely common problem}

<quoted text> i am having problems starting my 2002 fl70 codes show injection actuation pressure sensor not correct, replaced, still no change, tried to start again, started, next day would not start. spent $431 at repair shop, put on computer, is where we got the info, ecm checked out ok. cat tech said sounded like gear of front of fuel pump??? didnt seem logical help!!!!!!!!!!
Believe it or not but it is quite easy to check the gear on the HEUI pump with a few simple tools
you need a 1 1/16" open end wrench to remove large oil return A 13/16" open end for the highpressure oil line and main fuel line and a 13mm socket w/extension to remove pump .note:only 3 bolts hold pump on it literally will take you under 1 hour to check gear and put back together
also:did you change the sensor or the IAP valve because the IAP valve is usually the problem ,not the sensor

@ tommy harvey you might want to replace your HEUI pump, You need at lease 870 psi of pressure for the engine to run

Also i should of added that i just did one at work today spent 2 hours checking wires sensors and the IAP valve also checking the ECU pins 52,53,67,70,62 for a 12 volt reference NOTE This was for a 12 volt system not the 24 volt, Also if your cam and crank sensor is not with in the Ohms or K ohms it wont start either for the top sensor BK and WT Wire you want to check for a resistance of 75.00 to 600.00 for the bottom sensor BU and YL wires you want to check for it between 600.00 to 1800.00. But about the HEUI pump if the IAP reads that it has exceeded 2500 or 2800 Psi while running your engine will cut down to 120 Hp and the ECU will only put out 860Kw meaning you wont go over 45mph.

Bought a 2000 FL 60 to run over the road (hotshot) with. Its got 105K miles. I've driven "big truck" for 38 years so I didn't start yesterday. I'll be running 30K lbs gross average in the desert. What can I expect from this truck as far as performance etc.
Thank you

I have a 2001 fl80 expediter with a 3126 cat. the sensor located on the front top of the motor, next to valve cover, has 2 wires. according to the book it is a injection actuation pressure sensor. it is leaking oil out of the top .long story short dealer can't get on cat site to get part number. I need the part number to buy the part to get back on the road asap.

engine serial number? without that its pretty hard to tell cause there are several types available for these engines.
