I'm having problems with a cat 3126. It is an oil use issue. It's fine and then about half way to oil change it uses a gallon of oil almost overnight. Any suggestions are welcome.

I have a 99 GMC with a 3126.It wiil start with starting fluid and stay running as long as you idle it up, but as soon as you let it idle it dies.I've disconnected the lines on both side of the fuel filter and put my thumb over the lines. It has enough pressure to spray past my thumb.Any ideas to help me?

I have 1 2003 Peterbilt 330 with a 3126E cat engine. Problem is warm weather over night hard starting. Have changed huei pump, iap sensor, timing sensors, water and air temp sensors. Engine mileage is 354,000 no smoke, no oil use, fuel clean, serviced every 10,000 no fault codes indicated, fuel and oil start and run pressure fine. After sitting over night temp near 40 outside took 6 to 7 cranks to start, then idled fine 700 rpm ran good all day and restarted every time. [email protected]

found out that the crank no start problem, that my local cat dealer said was a actuator switch or something to that effect and charged me my first born to replace and didnt fix the problem was a LIFT PUMP located on the back of the HUEI. my 96 fl 70 has excessive blow-by and oil burn and has recently started to make a chirping noise out of the intermidiate drive system. The truck only has 177,000 on it with approx 4500 hours although all of those are hard working @ 95-100 percent of engine capacity. Truck runs great when it wants to. but on the same note it is so expensive to repair i would not buy another.

I have a 3126 Cat in my 1997 Freightliner. It pulls great with no problems at 145,000. It gets a fresh shot of oil at 10,000 miles. The Cat engine has been bulletproof up to now.

indeed this can be pretty expensive to fix. there are a couple things you could check. remove the turbo compressor side housing and check if there's any leak marks runnin downwards from the turbo shaft. if the shaft seal leaks to the compressor side you're burning oil mist. also there's a high risk of engine overrun. does the engine blowby line (breather) connect to the turbo inlet? does the engine smoke blueish or white smoke? mileage?

sounds like a governor problem. under what rpm the engine dies. do you need to rev it continously to keep it running? i've had some similar symptoms on marine 3126's and there's not much you can do to repair these problems than to replace the entire governor. bying a reman governor gets cheaper than trying to fix the unit. i wouldnt worry about the transferr pressure. i've had 3126 mechanical engines with less than 70kpa (10psi) and they still give full power.

measure the tranferr pressure if possible, should be between 50-80 psi.
you probably need to renew your injectors. these heui engines have had lot of problems with the injectors. especially with poor fuel quality. the injectors may be faulty even if the injection actuation pressure tests show they're ok. since you've had the other major components changed there's very little chance the problem would be elsewhere.

also you could check the turbo return oil pipe/hose for clogging. the line must be fully open. any restriction in the return oil line will increase the inner pressure of the turbo cartridge and thus causing turbo shaft seal leaks.

Took the truck yesterday back to the dealer and they say that i need to replace the engine with 3/4 block, put new injectors,etc,etc.. for about $18.442.69 Any help please???? indeed sounds like a cylinder failure. odd coincidence that this happened just after the leak in the actuation pressure system. where was the leak located? have you tried locating the wear sound by ear? by performing the cyl cutout test you can locate the faulty cylinder. i'm affraid you need to remove the cylinder head and pistons to be sure whats causing the excess blowby. there are several reasons that could cause excess blowby but since the slowby is blueish or white that is a sing you have in your combustion. repairing this may be very expensive i'm affraid.

just keep in mind that running the engine at it's current condition is very risky! i hope it's only a broken piston ring! remember that if thats the cause you need to hone the cylinder before assembling it with new rings!
keep us informed. GOOD LUCK Juancho!

I have a no start cat model 3126. Dope it and it runs and performs well. Starts sometimes without "help". No access to engine service manual. Any help would be appreciated.
