We are looking into purchasing a Freightliner FL70 that has a Cat 3126 engine. My question is, how reliable is this motor? When talking to some folks, I have heard quite often that Cat had some problems with some engines a while back. This truck is a 2000 model. I know that Cat is a great name, and reliable. Is there anything anyone can tell me, pro or con, about this particular engine? Thanks a lot!!

I had a 2000 FL80 with the 3126 engine. It was the worst truck we ever owned, costing 40000 in repairs in 5 years. Cat would do nothing! Said I was the only one and since then I have heard from others that had the same issues. The high pressure oil lines on the fuel system kept blowing. I will not even buy CAT shoes, that is how much I am ticked.

I am in the same market. I am looking at a Kenworth T300 'bobtail' truck. It is a 2002 Cat 3126 and it has an Allison 3060, six speed auto trans, 4:63 rear end. They rate the motor at 275 hp. I need to pull a 12,000 pound trailer (not 5th wheel). Do you think this cat has enough to do it> I am presently using a 2500 Dodge with a 5.9 cummins,,,,,,I am really putting the hurt on it.

The heui engine is a great engine. The good thing about the engine is that the injectors are not controled mechanically,(less moving part). The bad thing about this engine is that if you dont keep it service properly you will have a series of problem, power loss, miss, possible engine light. The reason of this is because the injectors are control by oil. Not keeping the truck serviced on time will cause premature injector failure.

Puedes contactarme [email protected]

the only way you can check the injectors without a pro link to do a cylinder cut out test. if this model has a huey pump set up then what you want to do then is and this may be a little messey. is to take off the valve cover and break loose the oil feed line nut on the rocker housing it self. since this motors injectors work on oil pressure when you break loose the nut where oil can bleed outthe injector will cut out now when this happens and DO ONE INJECTOR LINE AT A TIME TO DISTINGWISH THE RIGHT ONE the motor will cut out or not and if one does not affect running when you break the nut loose to blead off then that will be the bad injector

hope this helps
