the cylinder block originates from a 621B scraper according to that block part number.
the serial number tag and the stamped serial number should be located at the top section of the cylinder block side, at cylinder no 6 passenger side.

very odd. most definately the engine is a 3406 cat. give me the turbo and cylinder head part numbers and i probably can tell you the serial number prefix the engine should be.

RXB was in production between July 2003 and February 2008. to be more specific you need to tell me the serial number.

i think the year of your truck is 1984 and serial number 7fb,but if you say its a 1989 is 4mg or 5kj. the number should be stamped on a block under the maniful exit 6 and 5. around 5" or so.if you cant see it rub sandpaper to clean it out

7BF, 4MG, 8TC and 2EK use that turbo. if there isnt any stamped serial numbers on the block it must be a reman engine,or it might have been overhauled with a new block or a short block. new parts or reman parts come without a serial number so that would explain it.

the truck is a 1984, the engine is 1989 according to the only tag I could find (on valve cover). The truck was originally a glider kit so I have no idea where any driveline parts came from. Trans is a reman so it is possible so is engine. Seems to run strong though. I appreciate all the help and info.

•Caterpillar on-highway engines consist of the 3208, the 3406 and the C series engines. All Caterpillar engines are painted yellow from the factory. Serial numbers consist of a string of alphanumeric code. The serial and model number is located on a metallic plate on the passenger side of the valve cover. If the metallic plate is missing, the engine serial number is stamped on the passenger side of the cylinder block, just behind the exhaust manifold.
