Unhappy at work

I've worked for Casey's for about 2 1/2 years now. We're on our second manager and I have never felt so under appreciated. Is it the same way in other stores? Since there are only about 10-12 employees employed at any given time, the manager/assistant managers latch onto individuals, give them special treatment while the REAL workers do their job and still make less than $8/hr! They smoke every 45 minutes (or less), talk on their cell phones, eat at the counter and are rude to customers. Meanwhile, I'm here with my work ethic stocking the cooler, cleaning shelves - working my butt off, for what? Frustration?! Anyone else get this vibe?

I've worked for a store in the St.Charles area for 3 months now and am not all that happy. I work a 10am - 6pm shift or a 4pm - 11pm shift. When the night shift works, they tend to not get out of the store until 1am. BEFORE any employee is to leave in the evening (mind you, there are only 2 employees working. One works the register and the other the kitchen) the cooler must be stocked, shelves faced, bathrooms cleaned, pumps washed (thank God for rain) trash inside and out empited, floors swept, mopped AND BUFFED EVERY NIGHT - rugs swept, cigs stocked not to mention that the damn snack bar area must be cleaned and stocked and the kitchen cleaned. It's ridiculous and totally unreasonable to think that 2 people can get all this work done in a reasonable amount of time. Our manager seems to think that there is no reason as to why you can't get out of the store by 11:45pm -
I dunno - it's a job - what do ya do?

I worked at Casey's twice and both times I quit because of poor training, too high expectations, getting ripped in front of customers by the manager. Right now I'm waiting for my last check to be mailed to me because I don't want to go in and be told what the manager thinks of me. And believe me, she will. No matter how many people are in the store. When the store gets busy at night, there is no way you can get everything done. It's way too stressful. If you don't get everything done, you get chewed out. This is NOT an employee friendly place to work.

I also work at a Casey's. I've not been there but a few months, and I'm already sick of all the crap. I was friends with the asst mgr before I started; and now the mgr is having the asst. mgr text me all the time. I told the mgr when she interviewed me when I would be available to work; but they still call or text me to come in and get all crabby when I say no. I get my butt chewed for the least infractions.. It's getting really old really fast.
They expect you to do so much, but won't eval you for your raises or anything.
But like it was said before....it's a job. And in this economy, you can't afford to just up and quit.

I too worked for Casey's for almost 3 years, and went thru 3 managers, and countless worthless co-workers. And you are right about good workers getting a raw deal. Also if you have a complaint you might as well talk to the wall, management doesn't want to hear it. I was fired for legitmate complaints about work related issues, and for threatening to expose the store manager for safety violations, that caused an employee to get hurt. I have written to the corporation with no results other than they did fire the manager. They just seem to turn their heads and look the other way. I was basically retaliated against which is against company code of ethics, but can't seem to get anyone to acknowledge this. I am trying to seek justice, and would appreciate any feedback from former or current employees.

Any feedback on Casey's General stores would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to expose them for retaliation against me, bad management and other complaints, too numerous to mention

They will also fire you if you complain about store related issues. This is called retaliation and is against code of ethic rules!

I'm just wondering about other people on the donut shift.=)

Recently, after having been working the same hours for over a year, I was suddenly told that donut shift is not allowed to start until 4am, which is 1 hour before open time. I expressed my concern at not having everything done and ready for the customers in so short a time, but my manager told me that the "[Area Supervisor] said you should be able to do it in that time."

Before now, it was okay to come in any time, as long as it was reasonable. Some even came in as early as 1am.

My question for other "Donut People" would be what time are you allowed to come in? Or if anyone has any similar experiences?

I am an assistant manager at caseys and i know it can be stressful probably more so than any of you do considering i have to deal with all the call ins work everyones shifts who call in...and deal with all the whiny employee complaints. About so and so is doing this so and so is not doing this sometimes i feel like i am running a daycare.. as with any job it sucks work is not something that any one enjoys doing so i would say suck it up and be glad that you have a job in this economy.. you are not gonna find to many places that give you a weeks paid vacation after 6 months and then another week vac. and also a week sick time after 1 year.. then you get 3 weeks leave every year after.. If you guys think you have it bad maybe you need to stop and realize that the managers that you are complaining about do the same things that you are expected to do and more.. so anyway cut them a little slack. my store within the last 2 months has went 24 hours and started delivering pizzas try dealing with 16 employees calling you at all hours of the night because they dont know where the broom is or because there is shit on the bathroom wall and they dont want to clean it up at midnight whenever you have to get up at 3 in the morning and go in and work a 9 hour shift so that u can get off work and spend an hour picking up kids and doing the job that you dont get paid to do all while taking phone calls and wondering who is not gonna show up and if you are gonna have to pull a double....BET YOUR JOB Dosent sound Bad now...
