Increased natural gas prices are an inevitable result of this switchover, and will hit us northern states the hardest. Depletion of natural gas supplies will hasten; our children could be facing the "nuclear winter".

A climate bill that comes out of the Senate will take an "all of the above" approach to clean energy -- as can be seen by Kerry and Graham's bipartisan editorial a few weeks ago, and their current work with Senator Lieberman. The goal is to reduce our carbon emissions and spur innovation and investment in the clean energy sector... natural gas will necessarily play an important role in our shift from diritier sources, as will nuclear power and carbon sequestration technology for coal. Newly discovered reserves of natural gas and improved technology should help to mitigate price volatility or price increases with natural gas as demand increases.

There are a huge number of opportunitites in cleaner energy as we move away from reliance on foreign oil. The most important thing we can do now is pass concrete climate and clean energy legislation in order to send a clear message to the market, so the U.S. can reclaim its position as the global leader in these technologies.
