Sorry, that's not reason enough. I would agree if BP made record profits and then cut their dividend by 80%. And your post-name...sounds like something I used to hear about as an early teen...nah, I won't go there.

They are making record profits, and at a time when the U.S. had a high oil demand due to increase demands from China, BP shut their pipeline down for repairs to drive up the price. As far as dividends that is money that is payed back on an investment. To cut money payed back to yourself would defintely not be beneficial ....I am the Great Cornholio!

Oh Irving, why such ignorance in an oil state? BP shut their pipeline down so as to insure that MORE oil could flow without interruption, such as a huge leak. And BP's profits are not record...that was last year. I am betting that you hate ALL oil companies. No profit, no dividend...no company...that's the end result of that thing we call capitalism...PROFITS are good...unless you don't get any. The market will dictate the terms. Invest and enjoy, or cry, depending on your point of view. Some of those TX wildcatters would love a conversation with you.

I am caught. I actually drive a 1955 King Midget. It gets 95 mpg and the upkeep is zilch...but I can't go anywhere when it's ice or snow. I have a big 'Fridge. My tent overfloweth, my wine is Concord Grapejuice. I am not worthy. Forgive me.

THESE PRACTICES SHOULD BE ILLEGAL IF OBUMMER WANTED TO DO SOMTHING ABOUT THE COSTS OF THINGS AND THE ECONOMY HE WOULD GO AFTER BIG OIL AND MAKE THEM LOWER PRICES TO HELP OUT.

BP like all the oil companies hold the patents on quite a few solar and wind technologies. This would be a good time to start building this stuff. Are profits like this really more important than clean water, healthy fish and an unspoiled habitat? We have to eat and the fish have to reproduce. Oil spills like this don't seem conducive to either. What a shame companies like this don't realize the long term profits in renewable energy. They could be hero's instead they continue to be villians.

Obummer had a better plan he deployed S.W.A.T. teams to cover the oil spill, there going to beat the oil into submission.
